It's good fun.
Not like Forza's precision driving where trying to perfect your driving and car setup to shave 100's of a second of your lap times. This is much more furious arcadey feel, perfect lines are exchanged for simply hanging in there and trying to minimise the mistakes.
The single player is ok although my major gripe in racing games raises it's ugly (but not unexpected) head in catchup rubberbanding AI, it's not as bad as some games (Burnout, Mario Kart, Midnight Club...) but it's definately there. Although on the rally stages where you race times rather than cars it's obvisously not present, which is nice.
Multiplayer is surprisingly good fun. Where races are split into rally races - everyone is on the course at the same time but collisions are off, so the opponents are seen as ghosts. ALso there are normal circuit races with collisions on, both are good fun with the rally stages tending to be won by the player who makes the least mistakes and the circuit races being all about staying out of trouble at the start.
Collisions and crashes tend to be pretty insane, lots of rolling and body damage, although the damage is mostly cosmetic, you do get wheel damage only - which doesn't change much aside from making you go slightly slower.
