World of Tanks launcher update problem

Thought I'd de-mothball me tanks but when the game tried to update I got the critical error see log message. I uninstalled the client a few times and tried again, then I tried the US client but get the same error every time. Looked around for a solution but though there are hundreds having the problem since december last year, can't seem to find a fix for it. Anyone else had it and found a workaround?

Hope u sort it Cull, but you have issues for just about every game!

Must be something to do with your security settings, from all your posts!

You say you tried reinstalling, is this from the latest exe or the streaming install?

That should download the very latest build with no need to patch. Okay, its 4.4gb download but that should solve any issues and if thats not connecting with the servers to play least you know its a firewall / security issue rather than the upgrade jump being to great which has been known to happen with WoT with clients not played regularly.

Cheers Cad - that wont take too long, I'll give it a go. The other download didnt even have an exe file I could click to bypass the launcher.

I am the only account on the comp so I must be admin?

Swith - it seems totally random - some games Like PoE and Torchlight etc go straight on, others fuck about like nobodys business! I remember each time WoW was patched I had to update it on the laptop then copy the directory over, this bloody desktop wouldnt even look at it!

Cad - d/l that zipfile, installed it and its now downloading the 4.2 gig patch. Exactly what the streaming one did, once it downloads it wil get to 1% updated then crash. :(

Exactly the same thing happening. Could I try this on my laptop and if it works just copy the instalation folder over to the desktop?

You can install the client and cancel the patch process.

In your World_of_Tanks folder will be an Updates sub-folder. You can copy the patch files from an installation that's patched to a clean one and it will upgrade the client for you when you run it.

I copied the World_of_Tanks folder from an old Windows installation to a clean one and it would patch but wouldn't let me log in. Did a clean install of the client, copied the patch files over and it worked fine.

Odd because that should download a 4.4gb file. Ask gottaa thats what i downloaded for gottaa, it installs as a normal program, there is no patching at all.

but go to the small red text halfway down under download full client:

Download full client (version 8.3) 4.4gb

Delete your original install folder but there should be no patch, sounds like somwthing is very screwy your end.

Mine didn't patch, but it did "Update" for a few minutes which I assumed was simply it unpacking stuff. As for only having one user Cull you need to try and find the .exe file and then right click it and tick the box to run as admin, see if that helps, I'm pretty sure Vista's main user wasn't an admin user "For security reasons" or some such such rubbish

OK sorted ( Eventually). Cad your link installed the full 4 gig then it went in to update mode and downloaded another 4 gig. The problem came when it tried to apply the patch. It kept bolloxing up at 4% then after about 4 reinstalls I got it to 40-odd % before it collapsed. Noticed 2 torrent files in the updates folder so used bittorrent to get the 2 patch files and hey presto! Its now updated. I think its a ram problem so am giung to check and then try some new ram.

Problem now is getting my arse handed to me in me little Stug and me Hummel while I try and remember what the keys do. Can anyone remember which key enables the blue reticle that shows you where you are REALY aiming?

Vista? whats that. XP here dude :)

I only started seeing that reticle when I installed the AIOMOD which Cad told me about

Yes cull, on curse if you like that and use it already, there seem to be loads, but I've only used the AIOMOD as it seems to include others and does everything I need and makes it clearer

Erm, downloaded the zip, then there was a readme saying what to do. It was something like unzipping it into the games/worldoftanks/res_mods/0.8.3 folder, will look properly tomorrow and give clearer less drunk description :)
