Im installing the patch and it gets to the same bit every time ( forrestscarynight.wav and it stops and the error says it cant open that file. Tried about 15 times now, stops at that bit each time.

C program files/commonfiles/blizzard entertainment/wow installer/mpqs-1/classic common/unconditional/data#common mpq/sound/ambience/zone ambience/forrestscarynight.wav_

is the bit its stalling on. Anyone know a workaround/solution?

I'd say goto

C program files/commonfiles/blizzard entertainment/wow installer/mpqs-1/classic common/unconditional/data#common mpq/sound/ambience/zone ambience/

And delete anything called forestscarynight.* incase you have a corrupt file there it can't work out what to do with, beyond that I fear it's the usual uninstall and try again

Edit: That top idea might not work, just thinking it's in the mpq file, I'd say uninstall it and try again, it'll probably be the quickest way in the long run

you didn't run out of disk space did you?

and if you downloaded a full patch from a patch mirror, did you download the correct language version?

i've not seen the patcher fail mid-patch before and i always use the patch mirrors from wowwiki.

I had massive problems trying to install the game from the disks and then patching. The easiest way i've found is to uninstall it all from your computer then goto the Wow europe accounts page (login obvisously) and download the client from there - it's the only way I could get it to work, I was getting stuck on an error patching after installing from the disks everytime.

Did you download the whole thing from the Blizz site? Or did you install from the disks first and only getting the patches from the Blizz site?

If the latter then unistall it all and download the whole thing from the Blizz site (ignoring the disks completely), if that's what you've done then your best of posting on the Blizz forums.

How about just trying to install vanilla Wow first, install that only and patch it (play it to make sure it works) then install TBC afterwards (rather than at the same time).

Ok Installed basic wow from disc. Go to play, enter game name and password and it dl something quick then goes on to the grey blizz updater box and d/l for a further minute. At this point a box pops up with "Install wow" as main button and read manual, customer support etc as other buttons. Seems to me that its not getting the patch but the online client d/l - even though the client is already on. Will the latest patch on wowwikki be for all versions of the game? - might try it from there if I know what version to dl. The game is going on fine from the discs - its the patch thats causing the problems.

There are a couple of other people buried in the wow eu forums with the same problem and as yet there has been no response from blizzard. It seems that when They/I try and patch the updater thingie sends us to the client downloader instead of patching. That is why I end up with the error - its trying to install stuff that is already installed.
I checked out the mirror patch thing on wow wiki and it seems there isnt just one big patch that insatalls al the previous ones as well as the current one. I cant be arsed to download 10 or twelve patches and install ech one separately so Im uninstalling it and gonna try and get a refund. If I dont get a refund, I suppose its woirth 8 quid just to not have to spend a day and a half patching and repatching the friggin' thing!

You could risk buying WotLK and installing that - maybe it's a problem with patching upto TBC?

If i could get it running on my laptop and all patched up - could i just copy trhe directory over to the pc to replace the standard install? If so anyone know what files/folders I'd need to copy?

You can just copy the entire World of Warcraft folder from one machine to another and it works.
