Interesting to see how many of that team are playing for Liverpool next season the commentator kept saying 'this will probably be his last game for the club' for numerous players!

I don't really follow football at all but due to my location last night saw it all, half time I was thinking "they're fucked" and by full time they'd brought it back, very interesting and enjoyable game I thought.

And of course the picture of the fans enjoyment was priceless, bless em

Very entertaining, and glad to see a Merseyside team do well in a penalty shootout! Well done Liverpool :buds:

Well done the reds!!

I thought you'd been over-acheiving in the tournemant for a while now but maybe you're style of play suits the CL. A fair slice of luck helps as well.

The penalties highlighted how inconsistent refereeing is though. In the FA Cup final the goalkeepers were told not to move at all until the ball had been kicked. Dudek was all over the place and at least two of the Milan penalties should have been re-taken.

Is Gerrard staying now then Flight?

Theres going to be a lot of changes over the summer.

One of the LFC boards Im a member of includes Stevie Gerrards best mate and the brother in law of one of the main agents in Spanish football. It was him I got the news from I posted here last summer about getting a bet on Rafa Benitez to be the new LFC manager last summer before any of our press or bookies knew about it.

Coming in

Reina deal is already agreed with player and club (Villareal). Top goalkeeping talent in Spanish football at the moment with 27 clean sheets this term.

Talks with Joaquin in advanced stages. Hugely talented right winger. Unfortunately word is it looks likely to be choosing Real Madrid over us.

In talks with Owen Hargreaves. Wouldn't mind seeing this come off. He's been far better for club than he has for Engand.

We're in for Wright-Philips. Interesting thing here is that the Gunners have a verbal agreement of first refusal on him, but he definitely wants to stay in the NW. Ignore what Pearce says about them not selling him.

Other targets we are negotiating over are Boa Morte, Sissoko, Vicente and a couple of Centre backs to take Hyypia's place.

Going out

Approx 7 players leaving; either we havent offered them contracts or we are selling them. Notably :

Smicer, leaving on a free.

Hamann not been offered a new contract. Only mistake I think we are making amongst those we've decided not to keep. Word is he is off to Bolton, though he has a few other offers. If we get Hargreaves he would take Hamanns place alongside Alonso in Rafa's preferred 4-2-3-1.

We pretty much had a deal tied up with Baros going to Valencia, but they've recently changed General Manager, so there may be some doubt over that. Still think he will go there though.

Bottom line is there will be qaulity players coming in at Goalkeeper, Right Wing, Defensive/Holding Midfielder and Centre Back plus a handfull of players who will squad players and not first choice (Crouch is being discussed sadly as well as Prutton). From the present squad the following are first choice :

Finnan
Carra
Alonso
Diarra
Gerrard
Riise
Garcia
Morientes
Cisse

Rafa also rates Kewell for some reason. Guy has been injured for the last 18 months and has been a liability more than anything.

Even Gerrard didn't know if he was staying mate right up until last night. He's always been up front about why he wanted to move. Be hugely surprised if he goes after last night, but if he does 35million can go along way, especially with Van Bommel and Essien still available.

Don't think we have had any more luck than anyone. We've had the hardest possible draw, the Chavs, Juve and AC Milan in the last three rounds.

As for why we havent done so well, a number of our best players are used to continental football and not getting seven colous kicked out of them constantly. New type of football for the manager too. Will be a different story next season.

And yes its an old excuse but our injury list has been ridiculous. We've had seven players out with broken bones alone, and for a fair old time had all our forwards and strikers out. Gerrard and Alonso both out for months with injuries also. The squad Foolier left behind was crap enough as it was without all our best players injured.

So pleased we got Rafa instead of Mourinho as manager. Dont think the Chavs will do as well next term, though will still be rightly favourites for the tital.

I hate Chelsea :(

Can't see Liverpool getting higher than 4th.
Also don't you think Gerrard will leave now as a hero, he probably knows the team has over achieved in the Champs League (the league doesn't lie), he could walk away now claiming his job is done.

Crouch would be an awful signing for Liverpool, good player but Liverpool don't play to his strengths, Bolton should sigh him.

Ky

Stupid is as stupid does
Liverpool need several players to compete next season. First, a quality winger, probably two. Second, a decent striker (sorry Baros and Cisse just don't do it for me at all). Third some decent cover at goalkeeper. I know Dudek was the hero last night but to be honest, he drops too many clangers throughout a season. They also need another defensive midfielder. Plus they have to keep Gerrard.

Hey McFly

Did you even read the next but one post above or are you just agreeing with me.

Agree with everything you've said, except the jury is still out on Cisse. He's only played with Baros before he broke his leg - anyone struggles playing with Baros. Sooner we sell baros the better.

One of the nice things about last night is that outgoing players like Dudek and Baros will get a better price for us.

I agree about Crouch Janie.
