0-0 v Middlesborough is poor though really mate. That's a game you need to win if you're thinking top 4/3 and you were playing against 10 for the last 15 minutes.
Playing 1 striker and a 4-5-1 at the start was very negative from RB. It seemed like he was scared of losing away from home and wasn't willing to attack for the win. Odd.

Pleased we won our first game at Pompey today, even if it was a dire match by all accounts (the 5 Live reporter down there sounded half asleep whenever they cut to him).
West Ham did great. Good start for them.
Half my FF blokes are injured
Should have done some swapping, but the Torygraph called a halt on Weds, so I was too slow. Only 1-2 wk jobs in the main, but it's still going to put me bottom half in the first week at work. Got some points out of United. More playing tomorrow for le Chelski. Couldn't bring myself to pick any Gooners this year. All that cheering when Freddie scored last season was bad for my mental health, I think

Sissoko is going to be awesome. I cringed when Benitez said he would be the new Vieira, but he will be superb. He was one of the mainstays of Rafas La Liga winning Valencia side and is only 20. Sissoko - Alonso - Gerrard, possibly the best central midfiel in the country with Hamann on the bench as backup.
edit : not certain but I think Boro only lost two games at home last term

Did you watch the LFC game btw Ky ? Absolutely nothing defensive about the way Rafa plays 4-5-1. It was his favoured formation at Valencia, winning La Liga twice in three years. His teams get a lot of goals from midfielders bursting through. Only Real scored more goals than Valencia and no one in the Valencia team scored more than seven goals.
I think we will play 4-5-1 most if not all away games. The chavs play 4-5-1 most every game of course, home and away.

Flight, were you watching the same game I was? I thought Liverpool were listless, lacking any kind of edge up front and the only person with any drive in midfield was Gerrard. To call them humdrum is being kind.
The papers today are being even less complimentary than I am. I think RB is a good manager but you need a decent striker and another wide player otherwise I can see your season in The Premiership ending up like the last one.

Most of the papers dont even watch the matches they review. Time after time last season they were making Gerrard MoM for LFC and Vieira was indispensable, while in fact both teams did better without their 'inspirational' midfielders.
Every LFC fan who went the match was delighted with our performance. The most telling thing was Steve McLaren's post match interview.
I do agree with you about Morientes up front. Its not his game to hold the ball up. Believe it or not I think Crouch will be a huge success for us in away games like this. But, like I said, Rafas 4-5-1 isnt about the forwards, its about the midfielders bursting through. Gerrard alone had 7 good chances on goal.

MoTD highlights were Middlesbough had one chance, Liverpool had about 8, but they all fell to gerrard (and i do mean all) who looked again like he's going to have to carry the team. He's probably already got enough goals in Europe to make sure he's the leading scorer in the champions league.

Boro had one chance, LFC had 15. Seven of those fell to Gerrard. Highlights never give an accurate impression of a game. Boro hardly ever got out of their own half the entire game. Charly Dimmock (Parlour) was so lucky not to get sent of its untrue. Its a standing joke that Gerrard is the only player on the pitch if you listen to the media.
He is playing far better this term than last, but Id still have given MoM to Sissoko over Gerrard.
Anyone watch the Chavs game yesterday ? Thought they were truly crap.
