Yup the invunerable save is an issue but anti tank shot? Turn one its going to be rolling 6's to glance against the rear armour, as for the rest it cant even glance turn 1, i assume im missing something.

Mind you point for point it would be over kill :(

Overall, my most effect units are still my Kroot mercenaries.

why would it be str 4?
its str is based on its wounds. it gets wounds from causing them. it'll have been drop-podded in next to your firewarriors and such, and thus you'll be taking leadership tests on 3d6 and losing people for each point you fail by on multiple squads most likely. odds are it'll be str 10 by the time it fires.
(average on 3d6 is about 10-11 - even marines will be giving away a few wounds, let alone tau and kroot)

Ahh fair dues.

Yes that would be an issue. Mind you i still think i have a chance. With that on the cards at most ill be handing you 2 wounds*. But certainly its going to scare the crap out of me and its a win/win for you, even if it doesnt last, its a huge cheap fire magnet.

* From the Crisis suits. The Kroot never appear on the battlefield at the start of the game, its my only reliable melee unit so i infiltrate them to counter charge any of Gottaas ork units that get into my lines.

My current Tau army is as follows.

Mind you this is aimed against Gottaas Orks. His hoards are band enough, i think it would probally fare badly against your army overall....still rate my chances vs the Doom though :)

Vs 'nids i think id try with more infantry and crisis suits with gun drone screens. One rail head and dropping the warfish for a burst cannon / drones config.

Suggestions if you have played vs Tau as to what worked well against you greatfully accepted :)

If though your facing a deep striking nid army that tactic is going to screw you.

Mycetic spore with DoM dropped within 6inch of your firewarriors. Save vs ld on 3d6 (no drop) and take that many unsaveable wounds. puts up the DoM's wounds to 10 and boom hits your railgun with a Str 10 shot

Likewise Genestealers infiltrate into your flanks with a broodlord. Boom gone. you have a lot of massed firepower though which generally winds me up no end!

Yup infiltration is the bane of any army and especially for things like tau that dont have the melee balance.

The Kroot, as mentioned, use it to great effect so far.

I did play about with the idea of a total deep strike / infiltration army for a while but the cost meant i probally wouldnt field at less than 1500 points using a:

HQ: Commander Shas'o (3#, 187 pts)
1 Commander Shas'o @ 187 pts ((C:TE, pg. 32); Acute Senses; Deep Strike; Independent Character; Unit Type: Jump Infantry (Jet Packs); Cyclic Ion Blaster; Hard-wired Drone Controller; Hard-wired Multi-tracker; Hard-wired Target Lock; Iridium Armour; Stimulant Injector; Missile Pod; Shield Drone; Shield Drone; Positional Relay)
1 Shield Drone (Shield Generator)
1 Shield Drone (Shield Generator)

To hold off bringing the units onto the table for as long as possible. Id like to try it one day but not something to build a regular army around. Maybe more as a support wing for a larger battle to control where and when the reserves come.

On paper it should be about as survivable as a Tau can get but in practice i cant help thinking its still toast and Gottaas luck for his 10 Ork strong loota unit means i still wouldnt rate its chances.

I'm well up for that, Pick any day in november except the 3rd and 17th. If we fit this in with when you will be off work Cad I'll book a day or two off and have a Halo Reach day, 40k evening, chances of me painting stuff before them is still slim though, but I don't think I will be proxying unless I decide to proxy the lootas as kommandos with boss snikrot, that or I'll be trying out gretchin abit more.

I will try and paint the board though, green on one side, grey on the other, nothing fancy, oh and finish those ruins ... I need more free time :/
