How to Kick people or Call Admin support
How and When to Votekick
Votekicking is a wonderful democratic process built into the game where a player may be removed from a server if 75% of the other players think he should be removed.
There are four official reasons to kick someone, but there are other reasons as well. The official reasons are:
1) player is idle
2) player has violated ROE
3) player has used foul or abusive language, and
4) player is spamming chat.
Players may actually be kicked for any reason whatsoever as long as 75% of the players on the server go along with it. However, the player who initiates a votekick must use one of the four reasons above as the reason to kick. The player can explain it more thoroughly after he initiates the votekick, but the votekick itself will only list one of these four reasons.
If someone else initiates a votekick, press F6 to vote in favor of kicking the player in question. The console will confirm that you kicked, will say how many votes for the votekick have been added, and will say how many votes are needed. If no one adds a vote for ten seconds, the vote ends unsuccessfully. If a new round begins in the middle of a vote, the vote ends, so dont initiate a vote just before the beginning of a round.
If enough votes are achieved, the person being voted on is kicked off the server. There is nothing preventing the person from hopping right back on the server, however. Of course, you can vote him right back off.
How to Initiate a Kick
To begin a kick, open the console (~), type votekick playername 1 if you want to give a reason of player is idle. Type votekick playername 2 for a player violating ROE and so forth.
You must type in the players name exactly. This can be difficult when players use special characters used intentionally to make them difficult to votekick. Try finding a character like or on your keyboard! Luckily there is a way around this.
Every player on a server has a number associated with them relating to the order that they joined the server. To find out each players number, type playerlist into the console. You will see everyones name pop up with their number next to it.
Now type in votekick 123 1 to kick the player listed as 123 for being idle. No special characters necessary.
When to Initiate a Kick
Not often. I start a kick only when Im pretty sure the person will get kicked. It doesnt create any good feelings when you start a kick on someone, and that kick fails leaving that person in the game to hate you while you continue playing.
Only start a kick when someone is being a real jerk. Dont do it for personal vendettas or because the guy made a mistake. Never initiate a votekick for gameplay, unless the action was intentionally to cause damage to a teammate, often very hard to prove.
Never initiate votekicks for ROE. Its a silly option even to have available because its abused like crazy. This option is for people who kill their teammates on purpose. It is not for accidental ROE. There is a limit on every server of how much ROE you can build up before you are automatically kicked, and you should let this automatic feature take care of those players.
Everyone builds up ROE from time to time unintentionally, so cut the player some slack and dont further penalize him by pointing out that hes playing poorly.
When a player starts harassing you or other players, this is a good time to try a kick. Players who are just jerks get kicked a lot. Thats because players in Americas Army like the camaraderie that it creates and dont like people that ruin it for everyone else.
People who spam chat by giving their radio location four times in a row, or repeating their sentences multiple times are prime candidates for a spam votekick. No one likes to see the same message take up their entire communication area. Twice for a location is fine. It lets others know they are there while bringing a little greater attention to it. More than twice is excessive.
Finally, the most popular votekick is idle. Use this when one of your players is still at their spawn location or has not moved an inch in two minutes or so.
I consider it unsportsmanlike to initiate a votekick on the last Assaulter just so that he dies faster. Hey, if youre so impatient, dont die so fast next round. If an Assaulter is camping in a place that has no importance, I would start a votekick. However, if he is camping near an objective where a Defender could show up at any minute, I would leave him alone and let him do his thing. Hes still alive, so he earned it.
If you are that last Assaulter and you see yourself getting voted on, a little movement will usually end the voting. Otherwise you are taking a big chance that the vote will succeed and you will be kicked out for doing nothing wrong except trying to win. The best you can do is try to appease the audience. After the round is over, whether you win or lose, it helps to apologize to your team for taking so long. They will likely go easier on you next time.
How to Contact an Administrator
Sometimes the jerk that is playing is too harsh to be let go with a simple votekick. Sometimes players are cheating. There are lots of ways to cheat, and the guidelines of the game are very specific. To see the guidelines from the games official site, click here.
If you would like an administrator to watch a player on your server and determine if they are cheating, or if you want them to be kicked because of their offensive language, you will need some information.
You need to tell the administrator what server you are playing on, who the player is and what the player is doing.
I have found that very few players get kicked by administrators for cheating. However, abusive language will get a player kicked faster than you can call an administrator. There is also a certain satisfaction in having a jerk get tossed, because it lowers their honor and can hurt any clan that player is associated with.
Heres how it works:
Note the server name and IP address (hit F1 and look at the top) and the players exact name.
Hit the windows key to jump out of the game where you can start your internet program.
Go to the website
http://americasarmy.com/support.php and click on 'Launch AGA' on the right hand side in the Army Game Admins section.
This opens a small window that walks you through the process of calling an admin.
Choose the server. When you try to select a server and it is not listed, choose I dont know the server name/IP. Fill out the rest of the information and when you have a chance to talk to the admin, tell him the IP address you wrote down.
At this time the admin will tell you whether or not the server is supported by AA support. Some servers are not, but almost every server labeled as official is supported, even if they are not listed.
You may return to the game at this point.
The admin will log onto the server and secretly ghost the player in question, watching all his comments and looking for evidence of cheating.
After a few minutes, the admin will leave after finding no evidence of the accusation, or the player in question will be kicked off the server with a note in the console that says so-and-so has been kicked by an Administrator. It feels almost as good as winning a match.
