Civ 5

Yeah, really enjoying it so far. Definately has the just one more turn feel.

Unit stacking I'm neither here nor there on, looks better without but it can be a pain trying to fit them all in round enemy cities.

Roads create trade routes between your cities and capital so you should get back more than you spend on them.

Yeah I understand the changes, I just always liked to satisfy my OCD by covering the entire landscape in railway lines :D

Me too but it costs far too much these days.

I always used to build every building I could in every city but you can't do that either in Civ 5 or you rapidly go bankrupt.

I keep trying various Civs and strategies but my favourites so far are:

Alexander with Patronage - Hoplites and Companion Cavalry are both early in the tech tree and the Cavalry especially are brutal. Alexander's traits along with Patronage socials make it easy to become allied with city states for huge bonuses in food, culture, science and you get free units.

Napoleon with Liberty - Both unique units are mid tech tree but the trait and the socials make it easier to rapidly get a few cities built which each expand fairly quickly. Basically you can grab a lot of land and resources without crippling you empire with debt or unhappiness.
