Gears of War PC

Chick

Cartwheel RIGHT
Dunno Chick, I think if we stop arguing Aggy will ban us, which tends to suggest if we don't want to be banned we just keep arguing about stuff we actually agree on if we took the time to listen to each other.

I'll keep the arguement going till I know people got there chilli's though, so

ease of install:
console > pc

ease of running:
console > pc

sheer grunt:
some pc's > console

multiplayer:
pc > console

forums:
reading > jumping to conculsions

Going to go back to bed now, wake me up when it's all over

I'm hoping with the new forum setup with areas only people playing that game can post in alot of the problems will not arise again. Those people who aren't playing but like throwing buns won't get the chance, and those who are playing can work on not getting drawn in to any small bun fights which may happen.

No reason to stop the discussion though if people do want to talk about things, it'll do the thread no harm having the good old CUK banter mixed in, and we can all work on simply ignoring the bunfights.

What if you had a console emulator on your PC? Would you be multi-platform, and a freakish hybrid? Or just a ****?

Dart

Dead Again, I need a Rez
Oh so thats why when i try playing this for a bit and my computer locks up and have to turn it of at the mains, else it wont turn of. But afterwards when i turn the mains power on the computer springs into life without me touching it, but then decided to keep turning itself on and off indefinably.

I had to take one of my memory sticks out to stop it doing this all the time, and i thought it was just this new motherboard playing up.

Chick that's "Private" Action Chat, everyone can post in the General sections.

Back on topic though, if you unplug the PC from the mains Dart you still need to remove the memory to get it too work ? Cos unplugging it for a couple of minutes all should be fresh as a daisy for the next reboot, unless GoW is actually doing something funky to the BIOS (redefining the amount of RAM perhaps which is why taking memory out and rebooting fixes it cos the PC rechecks the RAM ?)

As for turning on when the power is on I'd imagine that is the setting in the BIOS as well for how to deal with a power cut in effect and you can change that (no idea why it would power off again though)

And I think after pondering more I'm just gonna buy an Ubuntu Dell for my Linux machine at home, even get a nice discount as our Dell account manager says she'll give me a discount on a home machine not through the company :)

How else can you explain the PC still being buggered after having the power pulled on it ? And taking out memory would cause the BIOS to update, and if after that it's fine doesn't it suggest that ?

Dunno, either way I'm looking forward to speccing my Dell :)

Dude... the clue is in the name of the poster.

Its not rocket science :D

Dart may have a problem of when his PC crashes his 'smart' bios is interpretting the fail state as being due to a user set overclock and is trying to force defaults. This can fail if there is still power to the CMOS, which as your correctly touch on, can remain up to 30 seconds after powerdown.

So on a clean powerup, it manages to force defaults from cold.

However.. there is no way that Gears of War can be messing with his bios, unless MS have written in some sort of flash trojan that tracks everything you do and is transmitting back to MS HQ to make sure people dont try and get round playing on Games for Windows Live.

Either way... there is clearly still a problem with teh Darts PC .. Gears of war can cause the PC to crash, but the lock state is being caused by a problem with the PC itself.

Also Dell sucks balls, stop being a fag, ill help you build if need be.

My PC cost 850 total, how much was yours?

Dell are overpriced shite that should only be considered by housewifes that want to play bingo online and Dart and Bert who dont seem to be able to throw a working PC together for love nor money :D

Help wouldn't be the word though MarkS, do it all for me would be more whats involved ;)

At the mo looking into some options though to see just how much effort will be involved in doing what I want, might end up using an old box in the loft for Linux and getting a PC for Talili if she wants one. I'd rather spend money on the PC for Talili than the linux stuff I'm mainly just faffing with.

To be fair, if you need things like support lines and on site warranties, then Dell is probably an ok option, but youll get a lot more for a lot less by building.. just dont expect me to come round when you do a Dart like Dell will :D

Don't really want on site warranties, but if they throw it in for nothing and still cut the price it's hard to say no :)

280 quid for a ubuntu PC from Dell with a better processor and more RAM, but no monitor. I might see the full spec of the Dell PC then see what the component cost would be, but for a linux PC it seems a good price, and I'd like to support there sales of a linux disto anyway.

It's still not like the 100 quid gOS linux machines being sold in the US, but when they get back in stock I might see if I can buy one and get it shipped here, still would work out cheaper :)
