8 Episode run starts this Saturday!

- Who and what is Clara?
- "Doctor Who?"

Titles..

1. The Bells of Saint John : 5/10 - A Real Letdown from the Moff, the plot was rubbish and was only saved by The Doctor and Clara's playful interaction.
2. The Rings of Akhaten : 5/10 - Bog standard Doctor takes new companion to strange planet, she proves her worth.
3. Cold War (Ice Warriors!) : 6.5/10 - Strong start but fell away into an average monster of the week chase episode.
4. Hide : 7.5 - Good episode - pulls up short of greatness by giving it a fluffy ending.
5. Journey to the Center of the TARDIS.
6. The Crimson Horror
7. Nightmare in Silver (written by Neil Gaimen!).
8. ??

I thought it was awful and I do look at it as a light entertainment show.

A crap story & ending.

I thought it was ok-ish. I never like the ones set on Earth, here and now. I much prefer when he is off in space or time somewhere as some of the absurdities are more plausable.

I'm very very forgiving with Dr Who. I really like Dr Who so will be satisfied with most anything they do (since it's better than an absence of Dr Who!). I don't expect a one hour self-contained episode designed for family viewing to have the knock-me-out "Wow!" factor of Firefly etc.

Despite having low expectations and wanting just a fun bit of Saturday night entertainment, because it can be so much more, so much better when done right, it's just frustrating when episodes don't sizzle with quite the zing they desrve.

Moffat, when on form, rights brilliantly. Much better than pedestrian RTD episodes. As such, when he pens a Dr Who episode, I sit up hoping for a rip roaring ride. When it's fine, but not as brill as it could be, I'm okay with the episode (hey, it's Dr Who!) but just a li'l let down that it's not quite living up to the (realistic) potential I see Dr Who having.

I recently watched the boxset of the 12 or 13 episodes of that were made of Firefly - i'd always had very little interest in it because it was by Joss Whedon the Buffy guy (I hated Buffy) - but as I ended up really liking The Avengers and Cabin in the Woods last year (both films by him) I thought i'd give Firefly a shot, the boxset was about 5 in HMV! Gotta say it was pretty rubbish - about 3 decent episodes but the rest were mostly boring or very bog standard plotting, also the action was so cheaply shot it was laughable - one sequence where Mal chases a bad guy down on a horse is so badly shot and editted it's like something someone made on Youtube!
It may have got better given more time, but I honest saw nothing in it that seems to make it must watch TV - half the cast were either boring (The Rev, The Prostitute) or annoying (River, The Engineer Girl, The Idiot Tough Guy). I only liked the Pilot and his wife and Mal (Who was doing a decent 'Ahh Shucks' Indy Jones impression). I'd say Doctor Who (apart from at it's very worst episodes) is much better in my opinion!

Yeah I tried Firefly/Serenity as loads of my friends were raving about it and just couldnt get in to it at all. Thought it was all very pedestrian fare.

Adam Baldwin being in anything automatically makes it worth watching.

If you're thinking of disagreeing with this statement, don't, you're wrong.

This maybe so (it isn't remotely, but..) lumbered with a comedy angry dumb tough guy persona that isn't particully funny is not a great role. The episode where his character has a song about him was just plain bad TV.

Catz

Catz is ebil *snigger*
And back to Dr Who....

Why do all the blokes in work want to do unspeakable things to Clara? I dont think she is half as pretty as Amy Pond.

Looking forward to the 50th Birthday episode :)

AND I treated myself to the limited edition Dr Who 50th Birthday Monopoly Board game :D Am I officially sad yet? ;)

Tonight's episode was just kindoff there. It was just so genetic I can't really form an opinion on it other than meh - time passed.

Disappointing start to this run so far.

Kegs
