I liked it. But - It would have been better over a couple or 3 episodes, maybe exploring the different races or expanding the story. Its the 1 episode thing that is killing the storylines, as a good idea often becomes a bit trite when rushed.

Lol, on a side note I'm loving the old school title gfx with his face etc.

Cold War - The Sub episode.

Only just got round to watching this one due to holidaying! Best episode so far, but still hardly a classic. Borrowed heavily from 'Alien' and the Chris Eccelstone episode 'Dalek' - it all started very strongly but sagged somewhat towards the middle, little bit of a copout ending too.

These episodes so far have been more a return to the 'quality' of the RTD era - 5 episodes left, I'm hoping for better!

Oh and Liam Cunningham (the sub captain) is starting to show up in everything I watch thesedays!!!

Lol I thought Cunningham was a Mackem because his accent is so good in GoT, but saw him interviewed and he is bloody Dublin Irish! His Mackem accent is bloody good tho.

really looking forward to the Neil Gaiman episode, the Doctors Wife was amazing. Janie I agree with you on many things, but Buffy was utterly incredible, do not dis the buff!

And Firefly... best cancelled series ever, bastards

Dear God no - it was feeble. Terriors was the best axed after one season show.

Agreed

Just watched this too and for a change I enjoyed it.

I think the 1 episode format really cramps any possible story development, as this one had potential.

Not quite a great episode, but the best one of the this run so far. Could have done without the final 2 minutes though - keep that creature scary, not reduce it by giving it the lost love background.

Very interested what they are doing with Clara, there are points in episodes where she seems to be acting out of character.

Interview with the Vampire was the precursor to Twilight

That is also true!

There is something about Clara. I like her story line.

Looking forward to next weeks.

Yes, better this week and next week's looks better still from the trailer. I wonder what dark secrets Clara will stumble upon.

Cheers

Hmm ok'ish I guess - can't help but feel they could have done more with the premise of a Tardis episode though - massive reset button (literally) didn't help.
Next weeks preview looked rubbish!

yes did not like the big reset button, it broke a number of dr who lore, plus it just plain bad writing "ok guys we wrote 45 mins of story have him hit the reset button" which was a pity for it wasn't a bad story up till then.

i love Dr who and in even the very bad story's i still try to find the saving grace, but i grow sad because with some little care and a bit of leadership the Dr could be so much more, wont be suprised if matt leaves after the 50th show as his story's are getting worst

I'm struggling to like Clara at the minute, there is something unlikable about her - I don't know whether this is to do with the mystery surrounding her, or if she's just a poorly written. I'm hoping it's the first, but fearing it's the latter.

That bit was rubbish.

I loved the previous TARDIS episode, with the TARDIS literally being given a voice in The Doctor's Wife which Neil Gaiman wrote superbly. I had grave reservations about him writing a stand alone episode but it was a mysterious, coherent, satisfying tale with a real "Doctor Who" feel to it, the story episode was good but it also enlightened us 'bout the Doctor's relationship with the TARDIS with her having a personality, her being a character. Excellent.

This week's episode "Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS" felt much weaker.

I really didn't like the TARDIS contributing so little to the story, it felt much more inert/passive. Almost could've been any space ship they were running around in, really.

The big red button was a weak, lame, disappointing resolution, too. No cleverness or knowledge or heroism or really any satisfaction to sorting it out. Booo!

Same. I loved Rose Tyler, was surprisingly taken by Donna Noble, was convinced by Astrid Peth, was satisfied (50% loving/50% frustrated) with Amy Pond, was okay with Martha Jones.

I'm not sure about Clara yet, either.

I liked Rose almost instantly, I liked Amy almost instantly (her earlier episodes were good, it was over time I became more grouchy 'bout her). This is the first companion (since the revamp with ninth Doctor) that I've not had an immediate visceral reaction to, I think Janie's right that we just don't know enough yet to have a gut reaction. She's much more incomplete, we know nothing of her varied pasts, it's very messy and unknown so harder to form an opinion, in all the uncertainty and messiness. If well scripted, with more backstory fleshing it out, it could work.

Next week's episode, let's hope it's not a poor version of the Fasrringhma School 1913 "Human Nature"/"The Family of Blood" or London 1851's "The Next Doctor" episode . . .
