. . . they could have done more with the premise of a Tardis episode though - massive reset button (literally) didn't help.
That bit was rubbish.
I loved the previous TARDIS episode, with the TARDIS literally being given a voice in
The Doctor's Wife which Neil Gaiman wrote superbly. I had grave reservations about him writing a stand alone episode but it was a mysterious, coherent, satisfying tale with a real "Doctor Who" feel to it, the story episode was good but it also enlightened us 'bout the Doctor's relationship with the TARDIS with her having a personality, her being a character. Excellent.
This week's episode "Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS" felt much weaker.
I really didn't like the TARDIS contributing so little to the story, it felt much more inert/passive. Almost could've been any space ship they were running around in, really.
The big red button was a weak, lame, disappointing resolution, too. No cleverness or knowledge or heroism or really any satisfaction to sorting it out. Booo!
I'm struggling to like Clara at the minute, there is something unlikable about her - I don't know whether this is to do with the mystery surrounding her, or if she's just a poorly written. I'm hoping it's the first, but fearing it's the latter.
Same. I loved Rose Tyler, was surprisingly taken by Donna Noble, was convinced by Astrid Peth, was satisfied (50% loving/50% frustrated) with Amy Pond, was okay with Martha Jones.
I'm not sure about Clara yet, either.
I liked Rose almost instantly, I liked Amy almost instantly (her earlier episodes were good, it was over time I became more grouchy 'bout her). This is the first companion (since the revamp with ninth Doctor) that I've not had an immediate visceral reaction to, I think Janie's right that we just don't know enough yet to have a gut reaction. She's much more incomplete, we know nothing of her varied pasts, it's very messy and unknown so harder to form an opinion, in all the uncertainty and messiness. If well scripted, with more backstory fleshing it out, it could work.
Next week's episode, let's hope it's not a poor version of the Fasrringhma School 1913 "
Human Nature"/"The Family of Blood" or London 1851's "
The Next Doctor" episode . . .
