Looking for some tv recommendations...

A friend of mine just recently managed to convince me to give the tv series "Chuck" a try, because it was a pretty good and funny action adventure show. So I bought the DVDs, am currently watching the last few episodes of season 3 and am enjoying it immensely. That got me wondering what other cool tv shows I might have missed. So I was wondering whether you lot could help me out a bit here. :)

I enjoy action adventure shows with a good bit of humour. Past favourites include things like Stargate SG1 and Atlantis, Chuck, Hercules, Xena, Buffy, Angel, etc.

I do not mind if the humour is a bit silly or corny, as long as it works. :)

So, does anybody have any suggestions on what shows I should definitely not have missed? :)

Not much in the way of humour, but The Walking Dead & Game of Thrones are very good if u haven't seen those.

We just watched all 4 series of Fringe, and I think its the best tv series to come out of America for years. Rookie Blue is a nice, Canadian, 1980's style cop show which is as much about the lives of the characters as the police work. Once upon a time is a quaint idea that mixes fantasy and reality and is produced by some of the Lost people.

Chuck was awesome for the first 3 series. It lost it a little in series 4 and 5 but was still good.

The following all have at least a bit of action and at least an element of humour, even if they're not all intentional comedy like Chuck:

Castle
Warehouse 13
The Finder
The Glades
Leverage
The Mentalist
Fringe
Lost Girl
Human Target
Bones
Rizzoli & Isles
Reaper
Primeval
White Collar

The following have action but are more serious with at least a little dark humour:

Haven
Person of Interest
Nikita
True Blood

The following are good Sci-Fi shows:

Terra Nova
Alphas
Falling Skies

The following are clearly for teenage girls but, well, lots of people die violently in them and there's much to be said for teenage girls:

The Vampire Diaries
Teen Wolf

I just started watching Revolution and Perception, both of which seem good. I have high hopes for Continuum, which I'm about to start watching, and Arrow which starts sooooon.

From your list above, if you haven't already, I'd really recommend you watch Grimm and Supernatural.

Misfits - funnier than most comedy's and the sci-if is so much more interesting than most dreary formulaic rubbish!

I disagree with Fringe - it may have improved granted, but the first series was one of the dullest shows I've seen. It was like The X-Files but with stupider plots and 2 limp performers taking the Mulder and Scully roles - the women inparicular (Anne Torv?) was really weak. And ever single episode always related back to something the wacky old comedy foil did in his previous life, and hinged on him having to remember something important in the last 5 minutes.
To be fair I have heard it got better, but meh those characters are still going to be the main focus. Just go and watch the first few series of the X files instead.

Haven
The mentalist
Leverage

If its action then try Burn notice (not on the above list) but starts mr Bruce chin Campbell and i watch it just for him.

I lost interest in Fringe after the first few episodes of series 1. Tried watching it again about 4 years later and ended up watching all 4 series pretty much back to back, it got so good.

I tried watching Burn Notice but lost interest almost straight away. May have to try it again some time.

Fair enough, I may give the second series ago if I get the chance. Afterall Spock showed up at the end of series one, so it can only get better! Although if I remember correctly they did seem to be hinting at a parallel universe..ugh!

Anna Torv is a brilliant actress tbh - at one point she is playing 4 different characters - 2 of then inhabiting the same body - and she does it seamlesly. I used to find the xfiles dreary in the extreme, but never once found Fringe less than absorbing and interesting. Its J.J.Abrahams - how could it be less than great? ( Fanboi? Moi?)

"On 7 March 2012, it was announced that, in a deal between Clerkenwell Films and Fake Empire, Josh Schwartz (Gossip Girl, The O.C.,Chuck) has co-written an American pilot of Misfits with Howard Overman. Production is anticipated in 2012/early 2013."

Oh dear.

Falling Skies was another one of those that I thought I'd like, watched a couple of episodes, completely lost interest, then tried again several months later and couldn't stop watching.

Maybe it was the character herself then, I just found her extremely uninteresting, despict only watching the first series a few months ago I honestly can't even remenber her character name - she was no Scully that's for sure!

Oh as for another great show 'The Bridge' was quite brilliant. 'Homeland' was alright too.

i watched the first couple of episodes, and utterly lost interest, and have never been able to bring myself to watch any more of it - not when i've got things likes Dexter, Doctor Who, and The Shield to watch.

Series - 1 & 2 = Very good.
Series - 3 & 4 = Hmm it's'ok I guess.
Series - 5 & 6 = How did this show with so much potential end up this awful.

Don't think I can remenber a show going downhill so much - maybe the Battlestar remake?
