Anansi Boys is a cracking read.. well all Gaiman Really, not read a bad one yet.

Gaiman is a genius. Defy anyone who thinks comics are not 'their thing' to read through all of the Sandman series and not be stunned.

Books I'd recommend:

Player of Games - Iain M. Banks

F**k me some actual taste!

Currently reading:

Chasm City: Alastair Reynolds

Wonderfully gritty and imaginitive Sci Fi from this guy, I think he is one of the chaos who hangs about with Banks incidentally. If you like Banks give this guy a try.

Stephen Donaldsons The runes of the Earth, its a pile of crap so have given up on it.

Not quite given up on it yet, but I agree, it's shite the heroine is such a drippy tart that you feel like giving her a damm good slapping.

So it's sat on the bedside table for when I'm not sleepy and need sommat to send me off.

Currently just finished Conqueror's Moon by Julian May, it bubbled along quite nicely but lacked the cracking climax that I was hoping for, however in my minds eye as I read the last few pages I could see the "to be continued..."

Also got the George RR Martin series on the go....and Terry Goodkinds....and...well you get the idea :D

You get praise for George RR martin, you get that praise taken away for Terry goodkinds, after books it gos WELL down hill

Jordan just sounds boring......

Just read FAT by some dude I can't remember. Pretty funny in a black comedy kind of way.

Rob Grant. One half of Grant/Naylor who wrote Red Dwarf, I didn't care much for FAT, it was slightly better than 'Colony' his last novel (which was actually a Red Dwarf rip-off).

Saying that i've just read "brave new world by Huxley" and its bloody Brillant, scary version of the furture but makes prefect sense....

Have you read much of his other stuff?

He's done some great, and some ok, and soem tedious mind-knumbingly dull space opera with exciting bits, i can recomend you some if you wish.

Maybe even gernerate a whole thread for you :)

Edit: Player of games is good, very good imho. The only ones i prefer are Excession and The Algebraist.

Excession is awesome, love all the politics and interplay between the ships, read it about 3-4 times :p (Oh, and most of my Eve ships are named after ships from it. Killing Time was a crow, in the days when interceptors were the most utterly deadly ships you've ever seen :p). The Algebraist is also pretty good, though not read it more than once yet. I liked Use of Weapons too, though it can be a bit hard to follow on first read through.

Stupid is as stupid does
Ooh yeah, Excession - great book. It is mind bogglingly clever too the way it all hangs together as well, the flash git.

i just love that the 'excession' of the title is basically something that just... sits there... and does pretty much nothing... while all these things happen around it, caused by its appearance.

The only Iain Banks book i've read is was called 'Canal Dreams' and it was mostly awful. About a female violin player who gets kidnapped in South America (I think) and then turn into a female version of Rambo. It was really short and very pulpy (new word?) and felt more like a screenplay. I take it this is the same author? This wasn't clever or sci-fi. Should I try a different one?
