Post builds here ....

Rogue Chimp
I imagine a lot of people will want ideas etc on how to build and what to build. So, for those of us who know what were doing, post builds here - a bit of info as to why you have chosen what youve chosen would be useful.

Speaking as someone who hasn't got the foggiest that sounds a fab idea! Cheers Zed

Rogue Chimp
Dwarf Figther (first 3 levels)

This is a 2 weapon fighting Dwarf. Primary hand would be Battle axe, secondary a Short sword.

Code:
 Initial Stats
---------------
  STR 17
  DEX 12
  CON 16
  INT 13
  WIS 8
  CHA 6

Level Progression -- Ability Inc -- Skills
--------------------------------------------
   1 Fighter -- -- Balance(=3), Intimidate^4(=2), Jump^2(=5), Search(=3), Swim^2(=5), Tumble^2(=3)
   2 Fighter -- -- Intimidate^1(=3), Jump^2(=7)
   3 Fighter -- -- Intimidate^1(=4), Swim^2(=7)

 Feat Selection
----------------
1 Two-Handed Fighting, Weapon Focus: Slashing Weapons
   2 Improved Trip
   3 Slicing Blow
Weapon Focus: slashing - gives you a +1 to hit with Slashing weapons.
Improved Trip: allows you to lay the smack down on an enemy and drop them to the ground for approx 5 seconds. Whilst some monsters are immune to trip putting an opponent onto the ground increases everyones chances at hitting.
Slicing Blow: An interesting feat. Basically land a hit and deliver a DoT. Not a huge amount of damage afaik but enough to wear the enemy down.

At first level your attack is: (As long as you keep your offhand weapon 'light')

Main hand: 1 + 3 + 1 - 2 = +3
Offhand: 1+3+1-2 = +3

At 3rd level your looking at an attack of:

Primary hand: 3 + 3 + 1 - 2 (TWF) = +5
Offhand: 3+3+1-2 = +5

A magical weapon will increase this by the bonus (probably +1). At lvl 4 you boost str to 18 and gain a +2 (+1 for level 4 and +1 for Str increase)

Focus on intimidate to perform a 5 second aggro taunt focused on yourself.

Wear Full plate armour (hence the lower Dex) for a good solid AC in the low 20s.

Any suggestion for a Ranger type? Not played one in an RPG for years, mainly because they seemed to end up as good in the begining but jack of all trades, masters of none later on which made it a bugger ever getting a group. Quite fancy the Longbow/dual swordy/sword + dagger type for a change

Rogue Chimp
2 weapon fighting Dex Fighter

Your optimum armour for this build would be a Mithril chain shirt.

Code:
Initial Stats
---------------
  STR 15 +1 (lvl4)
  DEX 16
  CON 13
  INT 13
  WIS 10
  CHA 6

Level Progression -- Ability Inc -- Skills
--------------------------------------------
   1 Fighter -- -- Balance(=5), Intimidate^4(=2), Jump^4(=6), Search(=3), Swim^4(=6)
   2 Fighter -- -- Intimidate^1(=3), Jump^1(=7), Swim^1(=7)
   3 Fighter -- -- Intimidate^1(=4), Jump^1(=8), Swim^1(=8)
   4 Fighter -- -- Intimidate^1(=5), Jump^1(=9), Swim^1(=9)

 Feat Selection
----------------
   1 Two-Weapon Fighting, Weapon Finesse
   2 Weapon Focus: Slashing Weapons
   3 Two-Weapon Defense
   4 Weapon Specialization: Slashing Weapons

The feat choices are slightly different here. With a higher Dex you go down the weapon finesse route for the increase in Dex. Enhancments should raise Str and Dex as appropriate.

2WD gives you a +1 AC when weilding 2 weapons (always nice) and specialisation gives you +2 damage.

At level 1 your attack bonus is: (light offhand weapon)

Main hand: 1 + 3 -2 = +2
Offhand: 1 + 3 -2 = +2

At level 4: (offhand light, both slashing weapons)

Main Hand: 4 + 3 +1 - 2 = +6
Offhand : 4 + 3 +1 -2 = +6

Oooh... bugger... errrr... bow I suppose...

Is that a viable character type, or given the limitations of a computer game based primarily in dungeons is it one of those things which would be a fun character but not going to be a key class in groups?

Given the reliance on groups for this game I don't really want to spend my limited play time standing around LFG because the class is OK, but people would rather have a Paladin/Warrior/Wiz/Cleric combo.

Any thoughts and advice? Failing that I suspect Nymawae will be a Wiz (any advice welcome :) )

Rogue Chimp
Ranged Ranger

This is a human ranger, focusing on ranged attacks. In DnD your ranged attacks are based on your Dex skill. A ranger, in DDO, gains a bonus to damage from a bow equal to their strength score.

Code:
 Initial Stats
---------------
  STR 14
  DEX 16 (+1)
  CON 10
  INT 12
  WIS 12
  CHA 10

Level Progression -- Ability Inc -- Skills
--------------------------------------------
   1 Ranger -- -- Concentration^2(=2), Heal^2(=3), Hide^4(=7), Listen^4(=5), Move Silently^4(=7), Search^4(=5), Spot^4(=5), Swim^4(=6), Tumble^2(=5)
   2 Ranger -- -- Hide^1(=8), Jump^1(=3), Listen^1(=6), Move Silently^1(=8), Search^1(=6), Spot^1(=6), Swim^1(=7), Tumble^0.5(=5.5)
   3 Ranger -- -- Concentration^1(=3), Heal^1(=4), Hide^1(=9), Jump^1(=4), Listen^1(=7), Move Silently^1(=9), Swim^1(=8), Tumble^0.5(=6)
   4 Ranger -- DEX -- Heal^1(=5), Hide^1(=10), Jump^1(=5), Listen^1(=8), Move Silently^1(=10), Search^1(=7), Spot^1(=7), Tumble^0.5(=6.5)

 Feat Selection
----------------
   1 Point Blank Shot, Dodge
   2
   3 Weapon Focus: Ranged Weapons
   4

With a longbow as a primary weapon a Ranger will be hitting on a :

+4 + 3 + 1 = +8 + any weapon bonus.

With Rapid shot you will fire quicker.

Enhancements should focus on increasing your Dex and str first followed by anything that improves bow damage. AC is important for the ranger as your limited to light armour. The best light armour would be a mithril chain shirt.

Great, thanks Zed...

Any thoughts on the balance/groupability of classes from you experience to date?

**edit** Eeep... Most of the feedback on the US forums suggest the Ranger hasn't fared well in DDO. In fact the jist seems to be that Rangers have become a mediocre class that a newbie could very easily "nerf" completely if they don't know what feats etc to take.

Plan B then :)

Any thoughts on a cleric focusing on Healing / turn undead aspects rather than combat / inflict wounds?

I wouldn't allow the DDO forums (the turbone or codemasters ones) to sway you too much in decisions. As with every game everyone has there opinions on how to play, what's best, etc, etc and it's exactly the same in D&D pnp and so exactly the same in DDO. And I imagine you could do harm to any class if you picked silly feats, but if you pick the skills you think are right I imagine 99% of the time you'd be right.

As far as a cleric goes CHA is what affects how many turn undeads you get between rests, so less STR than a combat cleric and more CHA.

It's worth as well looking into the point buy system in DDO, it isn't a simple 1 for 1 trade in points, I can't remember exactly and magnifying glass isn't on hand but once you understand the points buy part you'll see how to shuffle the numbers around.

Working out my build for a Dorf Barbarian, trying to go all out dmg as useing a big axe (or two smaller axes) seems like good fun. Have a basic idea I'll write up later on but i'm not amazeingly familiar with whats what (which makes things more interesting!)

Been useing http://en.ddowiki.ws/w/Home for a good source of infomation.

Rogue Chimp
Human: Support Rogue

This rogue will never be an excellent fighter, especially at lower levels (1st and 2nd.) itll take a bit of dedication to get the rogue through the first quests - you will need to go slow, or group.

Code:
Initial Stats
---------------
  STR 12
  DEX 16
  CON 10
  INT 12
  WIS 10
  CHA 14

Level Progression -- Ability Inc -- Skills
--------------------------------------------
   1 Rogue -- -- Bluff^4(=6), Disable Device^4(=7), Hide^4(=7), Listen^4(=4), Move Silently^4(=7), Open Lock^4(=9), Search^4(=5), Spot^4(=4), Tumble^4(=7), Use Magic Device^4(=6)
   2 Rogue -- -- Bluff^1(=7), Disable Device^1(=8), Hide^1(=8), Listen^1(=5), Move Silently^1(=8), Open Lock^1(=10), Search^1(=6), Spot^1(=5), Tumble^1(=8), Use Magic Device^1(=7)
   3 Rogue -- -- Bluff^1(=8), Disable Device^1(=9), Hide^1(=9), Listen^1(=6), Move Silently^1(=9), Open Lock^1(=11), Search^1(=7), Spot^1(=6), Tumble^1(=9), Use Magic Device^1(=8)
   4 Rogue -- DEX -- Bluff^1(=9), Disable Device^1(=10), Hide^1(=10), Listen^1(=7), Move Silently^1(=10), Open Lock^1(=12), Search^1(=8), Spot^1(=7), Tumble^1(=10), Use Magic Device^1(=9)

 Feat Selection
----------------
   1 Dodge, Nimble Fingers
   2
   3 Weapon Finesse
   4

Nimble fingers gives a bonus to open locks and disarm traps. Enhancements would first and foremost add to disable / open then to hide / move silent / then to any other skills (you can get a +X to all skills as a human)

UMD = you need to get this to 10 or higher, using a wand is a flat DC20 (difficulty class) roll per use. At 9 you will have slightly less than a 50% chance per wand use but you can use healing wands for instance - with a +X to all skills enhancement though your going to be over a 50% chance of success to use wands which makes it fun (web wands, fireball wands, CLW wands)

Dodge gives you an added bonus to AC - again, mithril chain shirt would be your best option, or a high + Studded leather armour.

Finally in combat you will be using Bluff lots to turn the monsters attention away from you allowing for lots of sneak attack damage. This can be used solo vs single mobs or to good use in groups.

I was considering going a support Rogue Zed; dont you need higher Int for various Rogue skills (disarming traps or something) ? Was thinking this may have been Darts problem.

Dart

Dead Again, I need a Rez
I had 16 int on that rogue m8

Why do you need CHA on a rogue, i thought Dex and Int where the main things

No, you can compensate for lower int with keeping ranks at max and using the enhancements as skill increases. I believe my US beta rogue @ lvl 4 had something like 21 to disarm traps without anything more than a 14 in int.

You could swap INT and CHA around, but your UMD is going to be unuseful until around lvl 5 or 6

Yes, CHA for Bluff as well. Dont underestimate bluff.
