Decide on which trade skills you are going to train up and head and find your way to nearest trainers early on. Harvesting can make you a lot of cash fast (eg skinning if you are hunting animals) just selling to vendors. However, you will need a small amount of cash (82 copper) for a skinning knife, if skinning, or a pickaxe, if mining. Herbalism (for alchemy) doesnt need a harvesting tool. (Skills all raise pretty fast, incidentally).

Actually using the materials to make things and then selling that to vendor will mean a loss relative to selling the materials.

Humanoid mobs drop tailoring raw materials. You dont need to have a harvesting skill for the majority of tailoring recipes, but some do require animal skins.

The tailoring raw materials can also be used to make bandages (linen/heavy linen/wool/heavy wool/silk/etc as you go up in skill) using First Aid skill. Very useful and under utilised skill.

First Aid is one of the three skills all folks can train in as well as their 2 profession, the others being cooking and fishing. I'd recommend folks do cooking when the game goes live for the highest level foods, which add buffs as well as healing while sitting eating, but not enough time in just a few weeks to make it worthwhile. so give it a miss during stress test unless its just to get a feel for it. Similar, but slightly less potent, food can be bought from vendors cheaply.

At level 10 you start getting talent points, 1 per level. You spend these in a system of skills very similar to the Diablo system. The way you pend these can make extremely significant differences to your character.

Priest talent tree here

This is to the extent some characters can be almost gimped for high level, play depending on the talent choices they make. The vast majority of Priests will be going with Shadow spec. This makes a huge difference to Priests solo capability and speed of soloing. But, for the high end game Holy spec makes a huge difference to being the group healer (Improved Healing and Master Healer alone give you 20% more healing capacity, though more significant is Subtelty, which reduces aggro from healing).

The only other class which is hit by such major challenges to their effectiveness in the group role is the Warrior, who chooses between being a tank or a damage dealer. Next patch is supposed to contain major changes to Warriors.

During beta there has been a talent master in the major towns, to reset your talent points and let you try out different builds. These are supposed to be being removed for live. They have said they are considering putting in a quest for talent point reset but little is known about this and how it will be implemented.

Cosmos have a plug in that allows you to have more than one bank of hot keys, amongst a lot of other minor improvements to the UI. Bliz are happy for folk to develop plugins.

Get Cosmos UI here

At least one person wants to take up tailoring, with the aim of supplying bags for everyone.

Storeage space is extremely limited. You start with one 16 slot backpack and space for 4 more bags. Bags are very expensive to buy. They also drop from mobs, but rarely.

Skill lvl 45 you can make 6 slot bags, skill 80 you can make 8 slot and at 150 you can make 10 slot.

You need to be level 10 before you can train skill 75-150. You cant go beyond 150 until lvl 20, when you can go from 150-225. Then you need lvl 35 so you can go from 225-300 (max).

You wont get silk drops (for the 10 slot bags) until lvl 20/21 mobs, but wool starts dropping around lvl 11 for the 8 slot.

Tailoring recipes here

Worth mentioning, as an aside, that most recipes you are taught by NPC's for cash, but some recipes are only dropped by mobs.

To underline how fast trade skills rise, referring to the link to tailoring recipes above, you can :

1. put a few stacks of mob dropped linen cloth in your backpack;
2. select bolts of linen from tailoring menu and choose 'create all' ;
3. around skill 40 choose create all blue linen shirt;
4. at 60 create all reinforced linen cape

This takes a few minutes and maxes you out at 75, until you hit level 10 and you find the next level Tailoring trainer.

While you have to pay the trainers for specific recipes, training in trade skills to raise your skill cap, or initially learn the trade, is freeof charge.

Though this was a decent place to paste the requested screenie of the Succubus (Warlock pet). Warlocks are very similar in skills to the EQ necro, but they get a range of pets which look much better than EQ skellies. The Succubus just stands there grinding her crotch and slapping her own butt; all very pervie and, I realise, of no interest to the vast majority of the guild :D

Just a note on the harvesting skills, Herbalism (to supply alchemy) and Mining (for smithing or engineering). They both include a skill to find the related material. In the picture above, 'Find Herbs' is active. This is indicated by the little flower at the top of the mini map, top right of the screen. If any harvestable resource is in the vicinity it shows up as a little gold dot on the mini map.

Check out the little number on the bank of hot keys, in the ss. When your target is in range of a spell, the little number is white. Out of range it turns red.

Oh ive got one ive got one! If you go to an inn and ask the inkeeper to rest before you log (you get like a sleep zzz buff icon), then when u log back you get an exp bonus proportionate to how long u logged, for when u start killing stuff again...i think..

So I guess I want to do Tailoring and skinning as my skills? Then I can gte leather and make bags... yes?
I still have not found anyone to teach either of these skills yet, though just before that last crash I found out HOW to find them, they are all in a big town ... That way-------------> but I aren't heading there as I have 4 quests to complete as of when the servers come back up.

You can get leather but you wont be able to do anything with it unless you get Leatherworking.

Crafting/xp musing:

Whenever I have a load of stuff to do a run on crafting, I get all I need then go stand in the inn. The longer you stand in the inn the more you are 'rested'. This makes your 200% xp bar last longer.

Although the 200% xp bonus only lasts for the first kill you make after leaving the inn, it allows you longer to pick your target for ph4t xp.

:grin:

Leatherworking does not make bags, that's tailoring.

I got 135 Leatherworking/185 Skinning and still can't make a bag. Can make some pretty darn good armour though :grin: !

If you actually log off in an inn, then the rested bonus lasts a fixed length of time based on how long you were offline, not just one kill. This helps people who play less frequently catch up to those who play more often.

You can make bags with leather works. But to get the blueprints (or whatever you fancy calling them) you have to do a quest. I was a Tauren and the leatherworker in Thunderbluff gave me a quest (can't remenber the quest) but after completing it i could create 8 slot bags using 4 leather, 3 kodo thin leather and 4 course thread (or something like that). I never actually made one because the Kodo thin leather was hard to find as they hardly ever seemed to drop the stuff, I only ever got one.
