Damn I love this game , but being the only wage earner in this huge family, I'd need to see alot of peeps to keep a dedicated going + isn't there normaly the wonderful contract time as well ,or is it just per month ?

This sounds a top game

Should get my hands on the demo over the weekend .

My main question is whats it running like on a 56k ?

As for paying for a propper server Dont mind 5 10 quid a month .

But tbh Id have to see how it runs on a 56k first .

Once again, Pipers l33t technical knowledge shines through :D

Well it's pretty ****ing obvious that a 56k modem isn't going to cut it for a server isn't it, monkeybollocks? CPU power, then RAM are the next best to upgrade...

Now **** off you ****ing **** sucking *** guzzling **** of a ****wit.

If we bought a server could we use it for this Battlefield game on some nights and for CS on others? or is it Battlefield only?. Also could someone burn me a copy of it as its massive for a 56k. PM me if youll burn me a copy and ill give you my addy.
If I like battlefield / the server can be used for CS, ill pay a monthly charge.

You're going to have problems playing it over a 56k modem, mate. Time to get that ADSL installed.

Aggy manages to kill merly just fine on his unl33t dialup connection so you don't need broadband to play it, but it's always nice to have a fat pipe... fnar fnar.

The server we were looking at was from Jolt, you can run various games on it. This is the list of "supported" games but as you get full admin access I would have thought you can stick anything you want on there....

AVP2
Counter-Strike
Day Of Defeat
Firearms
Front Line Force
Gunman
Half Life
Jedi Knight II
Kingpin
MOHAA
Quake 2
Quake 3
Strike Force
Soldier of Fortune
Team Fortress Classic
Tribes2
Unreal
Unreal Tournament

Actually, if we want an unbranded server that can support 20 players rather than 10 it's going to cost a bit more, around 120 a month :-/

Im not paying if you lot decide on a jolt server.

Ive used their severs laods in Tactical Ops.. theyre publics are ok but jolt clanservers are pants compared to BW

Was thinking of suggesting something like this, though I'm obviously incredibly slow since this thread is three pages deep already :/

A couple of things...is it worth waiting until the meet (if we're going to have enough comps there) to see if interest doesn't die down, and how good it is without lag with a fair few players in?

Another thing is that I'm going back up to Durham in October...now, the situation I'm in is I've got a P3 500, 512 ram down here, and a spare ADSL line, so I can tell it to host dedicated with all bandwidth, rather than me using the line too. (That's assuming that I understood Roch was running dedicated and playing on the same line). The only problem is that I'm behind a NAT, and unless it's very easy to open up the port for the dedicated server, and it doesn't compromise security, I'm not going to be able to run it, because it's my Mum's nat and connection for her business, and she runs it with a couple of partners.

Is there any deal where we can do a trial week/month on a dedicated server and see how good the con is, and how many people it can support without lag. I'm happy to contribute atm, but when I move up north I'll be sharing one 512 con with 4 other peeps that might want to do bandwidth hungry things, so I'm not sure if I could carry on putting cash in.

I don't think you'll be able to host a server on a PC that goes through NAT unless you have a router on your web interface.

When I host and play at the same time I'm not using the net connection because I connect to localhost, so there is no outbound traffic.

I'm going to play around with cpu affinity and process priority and see if that helps.
