As I said when he left, Owen is not in the same class as an Henry or a Shearer. His main asset was pace, which he has lost a good deal of through a series of crippling injuries and operations. Just a few years ago the injuries he has had would have ended his career. They have certainly cost him a good deal of his pace.
As for being a proven Prem scorer his goal scoring record is not as impressive as it looks. He scores in patches and will often boost his season tally with 4 or 5 against a crap side. He has never scored 20 in a season, even when he was the only outlet LFC had. His season before last he scored 11 in the season, 4 of which were against a crap side.
A good player certainly, but his injuries have cost him big time. He doesnt contribute as much to team play outside of scoring as top strikers should.
