It's complicated, i'll try to explain later.
Freedom of speech for one.
Freedom of action another
To Cause Mischief another.

or maybe because of this old poem:

First they came for the communists, and I did not speak out because I was not a communist.
Then they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the labor leaders, but I did not speak out because I was not a unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out because I was not a Jew.
As one day became another and others disappeared, gypsies, mentally retarded, homosexuals, Jehovah's Witnesses, criminals, anti-socials and emigrants, I remained silent because I was not one of them.
Then it was they came for me, but no one spoke for me because by then there was no one left to speak.

"As one day became another and others disappeared, gypsies, mentally retarded, homosexuals, Jehovah's Witnesses, criminals, anti-socials and emigrants, I remained silent because I was not one of them. "

I guess it's the turn of the Scientologists now ;)

This amused me :

The reason Mr Duignan's reasons for quitting The Church of Scientology after 20+ years, weren't because he suddenly realised the things he'd been doing and believing in were complete nonsense. No it's because :

"He began to question his devotion to the organization in 2004, after an encounter with actor and Scientologist Tom Cruise at the annual International Association of Scientologists Gala Ball where Cruise was honored as "Most Dedicated Follower". Duignan felt hurt that he was working for between five to fifteen pounds per week under difficult conditions, but was not seen to be as dedicated to the organization as Cruise"

So not bitter and twisted at all. I'm guessing The Scientology 'Most Dedicated Follower' award 2004 is about as meaningful as 'Mother of the Year 2004' (winner Kerry Katona) and 'Husband of the Year 2004' (winner Gordon Ramsey). :p

He may have lost out of the Most dedicated follower award but at least he didn't star in Days of Thunder (and Cocktail).

It does usually take some sort of clanging bum note for folk to realise the tune isn't quite what it seems.

I don't think I have actually seen Days of Thunder but I will avoid it now :D

Why do you care so much?

In all honesty, a lot of it is a highly developed sense of mischief, i'm coming to understand. I suspect 90% of cthe copies of that book which have been sold have been as a result of the free press highliting it as a "Banned Book", as in doing so it becomes a lot more 'sexy'.

Over half way through now, there was a cool "announcement" that teh Founder of Scientology has "moved out of the physical plane to continue his research into the Upper States of mind Above Thetan VIII which were until know only theorised about".

Eg he dies, they burned his body, and now somone else runs the game.

He died in the late 80's. Since then the whole show's been run by a nut job called David Miscavidge since around a year after Hubbard's "Transcendance" wher he issued an "Edict" that teh current head was "an enemy of scientology" and he later, from what I gather, "Died under mysterious circumstances"....

It reads implausable ike sci-fi....

If there were realy a secret society of vampires controling everyday life, hidden in the shadows but pulling all the strings, I reckon Cruise is a canditate for the leader.

Nah.
His head is too small, they'd never get one of those rubber vampire masks to fit properly :)

It was made into a film? I read that once but I think I was very young. Certainly less that 16 possibly older than 10. Its one that I never read again which usually means its pants. Anything decent I read a few times.
