Well basically if I understand correctly, we can't peer down into the pit and see anything. So the only way to get to know if anything is down there, is to go down...

depends.. if you have low light vision you can get an idea whats down there. If not, correct all you will see is black, on black.

[risach will attempt to "support" dDee if he decides to take a peek down the pit.

Aceeds plan of action then:

Tie rope round the basin thing (presuming it's pretty secure), tie a loop on the other end and toss the rest of the rope at the whirlwind in the hopes it will snare thak and drag him out the hard way, whilst staying away from the whirlwind as much as possible.

Other than that I'm moving away from it then (I'll pick a corner of the room (northwest one near the door)

Thak will try and rope the pedestal with his own rope as well.

jial moves southwards, to behind where the pedestal is. (ie. with the pedestal behind him and the whirlwind). if the whirlwind comes further towards him than the pedestal, he'll try and find something to grab onto.
