What are the groups plans?

I have Jacques wanting to head to the University Library which he can do - what is he looking for there?

What about the rest of you?

I'd like to head to the address on the slip of paper, but an hour or so earlier than the time written on it to catch him before things start. Anyone else also wishing to go I will join up with.

Key information i will be looking for is people rising from the dead, people not dying despite mortal wounds, the influence of music in those two areas, and the religion or cults behind that.

Firstly I want to look up that book that i remember to see what that has to say. Id be interested in other cultures and there folklore and mythology of the dead. I guess ill want to focus that specifically within african and west indian / carribian area although i dont want to rule out any christian leads.

If there is a member of the faculty who has a specifica area of interest in this then ill go and have a chat with them also but i guess thats more anthropology than history. Even still id like to see if there is anyone who i can talk to. If this leads anywhere i will definitely follow this up.

Ill also ask the detective if there are any reported crimes like this one where the victim continued to move flee long after people say he should have died.

Depending on what i find out i might want to investigate later but that will do for now.

i'd like to do some research in medical journals and the like to see if anything like this has been researched or observed in the past. (the focus being on scientific explanations, rather than folklore.)

Franks plans for the following day

Go to work :)

Check in at the morgue to see what Medical Examiner makes of the wound and whether they can explain how the guy walked all the way outside to be pinned by the car?

Check in to the corpses background - any known criminal association, reports of death threats in the past etc.

Ask around to see if any other "weird stuff" like this had happened before.

Leaves his card with those in the apartment.

Luther will also be rising early, possibly arranging to met with the others somewhere and then move on to the funeral home en mass arriving at least one hour before the aforementioned time to get the lay of the land and establish a couple of good observation positions.

In no particular Order:

Luther
The following Morning, before heading out to the Funeral home and meeting up with those who said they would go, Luther picks up and casually reads through the morning newspaper.

He is interested in the article focusing on Manusco's shooting, it tells little other than he owned a small time accounting firm. That the wound, acccording to police sources should have been fatal yet in his indomitable way he managed to stagger out to seek aid, only to be mown down, ironically it seems, by the very aid he sought.

Linked to this is another article claiming that the Mayor had ordered the padlocking of the Blue Heaven Ballroom, offering thanks that such a cesspool of corruption, vice and crime had been closed. The Manager of the club, one Mr Roland Marlow would be arraigned later that day.

A Roger Daniels is quotes and photographed. He states clearly that the club was breaking the prohibition and serving alcohol. He works for the Goverment according to the caption.

Jonathan
Arriving at the office Jonathan immediately realises something is amiss. The client filing cabinet has been forced open, the lock broken, and all the files labelled 'B' missing.

Rummaging around further he discovers a scrap of paper in the waste paper basket. It appears to be a note:

Mister M, you shld meet me tonite at Blue Heavin for a meaningful discusn on youre helth and safety. J

There is little else to be found, hearing a commotion outside Jonathan manages to leave before the police spot him and force him to ask even more difficult questions.

Frank
Frank believes a visit to the funeral home, around the time the card suggests would be a good career move. Although before hand he gets in an early start. The doctors and others who know confirm that the gun shot wound should have been fatal, on account he appears to be missing almost half the volume of his brain mass.

On top of that, bruising and broken bones above the waist suggest that he was trampled and stamped upon around the time of his death. A broken neck sustained at that point would also have been fatal. The car crash broken his spine and damaged organs. He definately would have died at that point. However the Coroner clearly says no way could he have moved himself.

Heading to the Apartment of Manusco before going on to the Funeral home turns up a scrapbook of clippings about Archie the Boss Bonato, dating over the last 18months. He savings passbook shows monthly deposits of $1000 made over the same period.

Alex
Alex quickly comes to the same conclusion as the coroner. The wound should have been fatal. In fact he had seen a number of these during his military career and none of them had managed to get themselves up, go down stairs and head out into the street. Some had twitched a few times before dieing but that was assumed to be a mechanical reaction not a deliberate one.

Either the wound wasnt as bad as people were saying, and further damage was caused in the accident with the car or, well, he couldnt fathom out what else it could have been.

[OOC assumption here, Alex hasnt ever had a need to explore the Occult]

Jacques

The university is quiet in the early morning. Access to the 'forbidden' section (as its known, in reality you need special permission from any one of the senior lecturers, Jacques included) was easy enough for Jacques and soon he found himself pouring over various tomes.

A couple of things spring to mind. An ancient Pagan text speaks of rituals for bringing back the dead although in the time allotted he is unable to study this in depth. He does though scribble down the book and page reference.

Another book, this one on Afro Carribean 'Voodoo' talks of chicken heads being used in various spells and magicks. Jacques remembers a comment made about the Drummer keeping one in his drum. Again time doesnt permit him lengthy research but he is able to scribble down book and page references.

Music is an interesting subject. Music, chanting and dancing can be tied to any number of supposed magick spells or rituals, from fertility through to Death. The pagan book speaks of song or chant (hard to tell on a quick glance) linking to ressurection or other spells dealing with life after death. But in all of it, after the couple of hours spent reading he is sure what he saw could be linked to occult practise of some kind.

10:15AM
As 10:15 rolls around each of you find yourselves at the end of the block not too far from the funeral home.

Actions?

You may ask additional questions or do additional research in the time between waking and arriving at the funeral Home. Frank can arrive late if he wishes, he may bring backup if he deems it appropriate (2 officers max)

For lack of a better idea, Alex comes to the conclusion that he must have been mistaken - there was no way someone could be shot through the head and still stagger outside, but he definately had staggered outside, so the only logical conclusion is that the shot hadnt been as bad as it seemed. Alex finds this hard to believe, as he's seen a lot of gunshot wounds in his time, and this certainly looked like one of the worse - but its a lot more believable than the alternative.
He spends what time he has before the funeral looking through medical journals for any kind of medical explanation for a similar event - but finds nothing, its all the same as his own previous experience - corpses might twitch slightly after death, but there is no scientific explanation for them walking and talking.
Eventually, he finds himself drawn to the funeral home, if only to speak to the others from the night before

Finishing his paper, at least the section that had him interested for the moment Luther chastised himself for his actions the night before, running like a coward, he had seen men do so before, in the heat of battle, he had seen men executed for it. And now he could not shake the thoought that for that moment he knew exactly what they had done, and why.

The thoughts of this were drowned out as he felt the reassuring weight of his M1911 and bowie beneath his jacket, his large frame keeping their presence hidden. He had made sure to take a couple of extra clips with him that day, especially after hearing about possible Mafia involvement and all manner of other inexplainable things else.

One way or another he would have his answers this day and leave this entire debacle behind him once and for all. Leaving the hotel and stepping into the early morning light, his taste buds still reeling from the strong 'coffee' he had just drank, he placed his hat onto his head, took a deep draught of air and then summoned a cab.

The driver was a short asian man who spoke surprisingly good english, it made a change to be understood he thought as the vehicle pulled away aiming for the source of his answers, at least he hoped so..........he could only be unsure of how many of the others might arrive also.

Frank gets dropped off a couple of blocks from the funeral home by a patrol car and walks the rest of the way to gather his thoughts. This without a doubt was the most bizarre case he had come across.

Arriving where the others had started to group, he nods to each of them.

"Well as we are going into a funeral home we can only pray that the corpses have a little less life in them than last night."

When they all have arrived he passes on the findings of the medical examiner.

Imaculately dressed in a black suit Jacques climbes out of a cab, pulls out a fold of bills and counts out some money, he mutters something to the driver then counts out another few notes. Seeing him stand there, although the suit is clean and pressed you notice that despite the well groomed appearance and fresh suit, jacques has not shaven this morning and dark rings now circle his eyes. He looks to the others and stiffling a yawn before heading over.

"Good Morning." Jacques offers with a wry smile, "I apologise for my tardiness but it was a bad night and and early morning for me. I discovered many interesting things but none in sufficent detail to be anything but stories and childrens tales."

Jacques looks about surveying the area trying to get a feel for the area.

"So fellow conspiritors, who or what are we after here?" I guess we are more interested in the band than the funeral. I would say our best plan is to split into smaller groups than stay together. What do you all say?"
