Wheel of Time

I think there is only one more to come out now. I read the first two of Sandersons WoT books and I liked them a lot. Personally, I felt the first of the two was a little better than the second, but either was miles beyond books 7-10 from Jordan and definitely up there with the best Jordan wrote.

The second or third time I read the later books in the series they seemed a lot better and far less dreary than I remember them first time around.

By the way anyone read Joe Abercrombie's triology? Just picked it up to read after I finish a factual book about the crusades.

I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed the First Law trilogy - a wonderfully gritty twist on the genre with creative and involving characters - Inquisitor Glokta is a masterpiece of contorted evil. Do yourself a favour, give Jordan a rest and try Abercrombie.

I'm quite impressed that anyone still bothers with this series. I think I got to Book 7 before deciding that it really wasn't interesting enough for the wordage you had to get through.

Robert Jordan suffered from verbosity to the maximum degree. I think its quite fitting he popped his clogs before finishing the series.....

Giving up at book 7 crew checking in o/

Can you recommend any better written sprawling fantasy epics, as this just did my nut in.

ps. hi :)

Well, The Gathering Storm is over 700 pages long and it's a big heavy book.

If the other two are as big then I can understand why they didn't publish the lot in one volume. Sure the publishers want more of our cash but I don't fancy trying to hold a 2,000+ page book whilst reading it in the bath :p

Been reading this on my Kindle...not so heavy, about halfway through and really enjoying it so far. Well done that Mr Sanderson & Jordan.

@Chick as mentioned above and elsewhere....

Joe Abercrombie's trilogy is a good read - The blade itself, before they are hanged and last argument of kings

Richard Morgan's - the steel remains

Robin Hobb - assassins aprentice trilogy

to name a few.

I'll check Joe out - thanks. I found Hobb's work seriously depressing though, after getting to the 3rd book i was ready to kill myself :)

Wheel of Time really did little for me but I'm totally with you that Joe Abercrombie's books are ace. Interesting world, interesting plot, very interesting characters that evolve credibly through the stories.

Me likes.

I gave up on the 7th or so book too. Was a bit sad as I really enjoyed the first few.

Don't know if you have read it but the Winter of the World books by Michael Scott Rohan are probably the best fantasy I have read. I just looked it up and found its a 6 book series, For some reason I thought it ended on the 3rd.. awesome! :D

Just finished the 12th book The Gathering Storm and it was a good read, so good I immediately downloaded the 13th Towers of Midnight, which is supposed to be even better according to reviews :)

Jordan lost his way around book 7 but the later books are better 2nd or 3rd time around.

Sanderson has done wonders with books 12 and 13 and I'm expecting book 14 to be awesome.
