3rd xbox!! hahar

Cracked and bought my 3rd xbox last night. Been missing not having one for a while and umming and ahhing but reading a few xbox mags the upcoming games were too tempting. Actually managed to make a bit of money flogging the elite on ebay, paid 300 for the elite with 4 games and 2 controllers and managed to flog it for 380 with 6 games and the controllers.. mainly thanks to Jo's haggling skills when we bought it and the timing of selling it (they were short supply and the price cuts were still a couple of months away)

Games wise.. i like the look of

Fifa 09 - Well got it with it (fifa+60gig 360+extra gamepad, 179), great game of football, after just 1 nights play scoring some great and varied goals and the live update system has suitably nerfed the shit out of Spuds :D

Dead Space - Bioshock in space? looks good

Gears of War 2 - I was always going to get another when this comes out..pewpew

Saints Row 2 - Looks like a lot of fun and i like that they havnt gone serious and tried to contend directly with GTA IV

Fable 2 - Not played a Molyneaux game for ages, this looks like cutsey fun.. and i cant stand jap crap so id rather play this than FFXXVVI

Need For Speed Undercover - Mrrroooooowwwwwww

RACE pro - like the looks of this, looks like a cross between Forza and GRID

Did look at PS3 this time and spent some time playing it, but i really dont see the point of paying more money for a console with less games, worse online support and a weird frame judder.. i guess that could be from sloppy ports from the 360, but like for like, PS3 games look worse to me.

...and the missus did want me to get a wii.. but i explained that was grounds for divorce.

demand a new model with the revised pcb mate, im lucky that ive never had a problem with any of my xbox's, but the new ones with HDMI ports are sposed to have the RROD problem fixed.

The controversy now is that apparently MS knew about the problem on release. The cunts are lucky that the developers got behind the 360 and made it a success as it had fuck all to do with them.

Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise for Jo :)

You might want to look at:
Fallout3 - Oblivion with guns and radiation
Mirror's Edge - Let everyone not playing get motion sickness while you run and jump and stuff (watch a few preview video's)
Left 4 Dead - If you not getting it on the PC you need to at least get it for the 360, pewpew with zombies, need I say more
RE5 - pewpew, zombies, big zombies with axes, chainsaws, nuff said
Overlord 2 - If you liked overlord

As for the PS3, the only real reason I wanted it comes out this month, Little Big Planet, the other games I had on pre-order on the PS3 I have cancelled, I do want to like the PS3, but long installs, a UI I just don't like, games just really being bad ports of the 360 (fallout3 being a prime example), it's pretty much just now gonna be for LBP and Blu-Ray movies

not convinced about Fallout 3, the videos of it seem very jerky.. and if thats the videos the devs are showing, whats the rest of it like? ill wait for reviews.

RE5 does look nice.

I really wanted to like the PS3 as well, if only as buying a 3rd Xbox seemed a bit mental... but it just didnt jump out at me as being any better than the now much cheaper 360. Fifa seemed to be pausing every time something significant like a goal or foul happened and the F1 game i tried was pants, the UI seemed like an afterthought and im not buying all my DVDs on blu-ray again so 360 it was.

The UI was by design .. it's the same as the PSP ... yes someone actually came up with that horrible mess and thought it was a good idea :( So good they used it on two consoles :/

And do take a look at Mirrors Edge, I'm gonna rent it first myself cos I'm not sure my good eye will make ou the little dot meaning I won't get motion sickness in the game (how they stop the player getting motion sickness), I've a feeling it'll not be very forgiving and you'll be repeating stuff until you know the level backwards, but when it looks that nice who cares !

"HDMI ports are sposed to have the RROD problem fixed."

Sadly not true, even the new new new new ones RROD with even ram chips only on one side.

And fallout3 being a bad port? Its not even out.

i like my ps3, but honestly the main reason is that a few of my mates have em, and its nice and easy to lan em up for games. very few ps3 exclusives. and they seem to have forgotten that what made the ps2 so popular was all its rpgs and backwards compatibility - both of which are now gone...
but meh, i've got access to a 360 for gears 2, and most games i'd much rather play on a pc than a console anyway (eg. fallout 3)

I didnt say Fallout 3 was a bad port you rabid PS3 fanboi :D .. i said there are games that jerk on the PS3 but that could be down to being lazy ports from the 360 or even PC rather than the PS3 itself... much like GH3 on the PC needs a rig that can play Crysis to get anywhere near the performance of the PS2.

The vids ive seen of fallout, which i believe were 360 footage have really bad slowdown, like i said, what worries me is devs usually show good parts.. so if thats jerky.. whats the rest of it like.

Ive not written off ever getting a PS3, PS2 was my fav console ever, and id love to see it updated, but each time ive looked at getting another console its just not looked like a good option and still doesnt.

..having said that, ive just read about the fall update to the Xbox's UI.. games copied to hard drive... nice, 1680x1050 now supported.. wooohooo, blades UI gone replace with hybrid of PS3 Home with Wii Miis... ARRRGGHHHH!

It's an optional update though Marks, you can keep the original 360 UI :)

And it was me who was hinting at PS3 fallout being pants, even the developers were saying the same (if you read between the lines), PS3 to have no additional downloads, no trophies on release, and the dev's saying "it wasn't there focus" or words to that extent.

Don't get me wrong I'd much rather get Fallout 3 on the PS3, but it is the lesser of the two console versions, add in the inevitable long install and it just turns me off. My PS3's HDD isn't massive and with each game wanting now it seems a fairly hefty install it really doesn't do well as a casual console, maybe if I just would buy one game, play it to completion then move on I'd be less bothered but I don't (I don't imagine many here do that either)

LBP is the next game I'm getting, then Infamous (super-hero/villan with lightening powers FTW), then GT5, the trouble is there just really spread out and I see no reason at the moment I'd pick the PS3 version over the 360 version.

Looking at the quality of Oblivion I'd be suprised if the PS3 version was the lesser. I'm assuming its an update of the same engine? Oblivion and the expansion looked amazing on the PS3.

I'd be even more suprised if its a bad game looking at the dev history but I guess anyone not a fan of Oblivion will not be swayed much.

I think I've said this before but you need to be an importer of Japanese software to get the best from the PS3 at the moment. Even then, assuming you don't buy games every week, there is enough good UK software out there now to keep most owners going.

How long are the installs? Minutes? Apart from MGS the only installs I've experienced have been a few minutes. I can't see that being off-putting tbh. Once its done the experience is no different and in some cases slightly faster. The only reason we are not seeing it on the 360 is the arcade machine.

I'm looking forward to Fable 2, Fallout 3 and Resistance 2 UK wise. Gears 2 will no doubt be good but I can't stand the good old US of A jock mentality to the characters.

I didn't like GoW much. Probably because I kept trying to compare it to the other shooty game I was playing at the time, CoD4, and it felt unplayably inaccurate and clunky in comparison. Perhaps a harsh comparison to make...

However, the ridiculous characters were pretty much all that kept me playing to the end, gotta love the dialogue. It's kinda why I watch Predator and Commando every now and again. Closet homose... er, the characters amuse me.

Fable was another game I didn't like, but still played through to the end. The main flaw with Fable was it was mind numbingly easy (also over-hyped, but I'll put that down to them letting Peter "My games cure cancer" Molyneux talk in public). I might borrow Fable 2 if I get bored one day, but I can't see me buying it.

The installs I'd guess are around 3 to 5 minutes normally, the issue for me is how quickly those installs fill up the PS3 disc, I'm a casual player, have roughly 9 PS3 games I play occasionally dependant on my mood, if I got all my games on the PS3 I'd be having to uninstall quite often with my style of play.

Not some great mammoth task I need a degree to do or anything but you don't have to on the 360 which makes the 360 easier (as I've always said I like consoles for there simplicity and lack of having to fiddle with things, you just put in the disc and play)

the 40 gig should easily hold 9 games worth gottaa

Unless you have loads of movies on it?

More music and a few movies (which are only like 6/700 Mb each) on there, mainly because for some reason the PS3 won't recognise the stuff off Vista's supposedly media shared files (though that could be an issue with Vista rather than the PS3) and I guess a chunk of PSN things like warhawk and pain, but I didn't think those were that big

Dunno, I do know I needed to uninstall one game when I put in Untold Legends
