Well it looks like i will be playing small 40K games in manchester next year, 500pts and i am going for Spacemarines, I suspect i will be fighting Nids,Eldar and IG.

1st
HQ: Labrian plus Fimalir = 110
Troops: 2 6 men Tactical Marines 192
both sqs: Sergant has CC weapons, 4* Bolters and 1 flamer


Fast Attack: 3 Landspeeder with MM = 195

2nd

HQ Chaplin with Jump pack and Melta bombs 120
fast attack: 5 Assult marines (being lead by HQ) 110
Troop: 2* 6 Marines, Srg with CC 4 bolters, one sq with Flamer the other with Plasma.
Razor back for 1 sqs transport 70

any advice if they are any good? frist time i have tryed making an army you see.....

first up, tactical squads are 5 or 10 man units. you cannot do 6 of them. one is usually a sergeant the rest normal troops.

i need to look at the other pc (have army builder on it) and ill put a force together. but if your fighting against nids watch out for. be good to know what models you actually have access to.

HQ - broodlord + retinue
troops: 4 X 6 genestealers with scuttle.

since they pretty much can all infiltrate and will rip a marine a new ass if they get into combat your going to be in serious trouble. Im putting both a marine and a nids 500pt force together for a january small cities of death tournament so ill havesome ideas to post for you.

right now just starting on my dark angels marines force. already i have the rhino, land raider, deathwing, ravenwing, 4 10 man tactical squads, 2 devastator squads, 1 scouts with snipers, 1 assault scouts put together. that doesnt include the blackreach set i got for xmas... hehehe

Got no models yet..so its free reign. I suspect nid will kill all hence why I have my 3 land speeders with multi metelters.....are you sure that it 5 or 10? Everywhere I read it alwys says squads of 6 or rather even numbers...oh which army bluider you using? Wondering if its free!

yup i use the same. restricted to 3 units in demo but its only around �25. if your a wargamer its worth it (supports more then just 40K)

Nids are going to change a lot with the new codex in January, there are some very nasty new choices available in the codex but also some big changes to balance them out. To many to list here, if you want more info (for your own force or to just know your enemy) check out bell of lost souls, they have even started putting together lists based on the information from the leaked german copy of the codex. Though it still looks like the flamer will be your friend for bug squishing. But watch out for bugs using drop pods now :)

I've been trying to decide on which army to try out next and it was between Dark Angels (one of the few marine forces not seen in the group up here) demons and Grey Knights... so far i've just dabbled with Demons and Greys Knights, got a few models for each of those forces done, but with the volume of metal over plastic for each force it's slow going and i'm still not sure which one i'll settle on. I'll probably have a better idea once i've got enough painted up to run a few combat patrol games with each.

yeah the new nids stuff looks interesting. not a chance of me collecting nids though - 2 of the folks i play with have nid armies already, a 3rd would be a bit silly :p

So heres a pretty basic Marine army. Now, my marine knowledge is based on Dark angels so you can indeed have upto 10, min 5 tactical squads but can only get the flamer etc if you have 10 men in the squad. So it seems worth doing. also the Razorback can only carry 6 men so no good for 10 man tactical squads.

A second choice This gives you a squad of scouts with sniper rifles and the Devastator squad. You have a lot of heavy weapons fire and some rending and what not. Its an interesting idea and with the smaller tactical squad you have a razorback, though id be tempted to assign the devastators to the razorback.

Trygon looks really nice, especially the part where other units can enter play through the tunnel he leaves behind. Another one people are raving about is the tervigon, you can take one as a troop choice for ever termigant squad you take, it spawns 3d6 gants every turn until a double or triple is rolled at which point it stops for the rest of the game (you still get the number you rolled though).

The following was posted earlier today on BOLS/Warseer from what appears to be a reliable source... take with a pinch of salt though.


"Yesterday I got to look at some of the new WIP items for 2010 and beyond. A lot of it is already out there, (Ork Dreads). Some of it has been seen. I got permission to mention some of the items, but not a lot of specifics or specific release details.

* New GK Terminators 3ups (5 poses, 1 HQ/leader)
* New Daemonhunter/Witchhunter concept art
* New DH/WH vehicles/support
* New Ork dreads
* New Marine models for a specific chapter
* New SM concept art
* New DE models (these are sweet, and I'm not a DE lover)
* New DE concept art
* New Guard tanks/artillery
* New Necron MC sized model
* New Necron concept art
* New Ork vehicles
* New 40k concept art and 3ups tied to a future Codex release
* A lot of the Missions book tie in releases

Obviously a lot of this just strengthens rumors that are already out there. And some of it looks very rough, as in 3ups with lots of notes for changes.

I'm struggling to hold back and just dump specifics. There is one model in particular I want to talk about, but am unable, but you all will find that out soon anyhow, it's part of the Missions release, so news will spill out in due course."


The new Dark Eldar sound a little tempting... a whole new range/codex to play with is always fun.

The problem you have is this:

You need to field 1 X Hq and 2 X troops to be a valid army. At 500 points your HQ is 1/5th of that value, the two tactical squads if left as 5 men each are another 180 points. This leaves you with only 220 points to spend on 'free stuff'. Its 180 points to get a 10 man tac squad which you can add the flamer and say a missile launcher to.

at 500 points you cannot legally field a Land raider :-(

:) Ive shelved my Nids for the moment and am working on a Dark angels army. After a black reach set and about �100 on ebay i think i have 2500 - 3000 points of angels to field. (including 4 dreadnoughts which is technically undoable outside of Apocalype im guessing)

How about 2x scout squads, that only comes to 150 points, that should save the 30 points for the land raider but you'll lose your surviable marine armour saves... though not sure if my math is correct as i don't have the codex at hand.

But, what actual use is this to you i have to ask. A well placed Genestealer strike could take out the Land raider :(

That said it would be an interesting advance party for clearing a ruined city block.

Thats the one i was thinking of, lacking in marine strength though, but you got a landraider to scare the pants off your opponent.

For you stelaler list, I don't know the point costs yet but you'll be able to add a broodlord (like a sergeant) in each squad of genestealers in the new codex apparently, he loses the power weapon effect as well as the eternal warrior bonus but gains psychic powers. Unfortunetly stealers have lost feeder tendrils :( and the scything talons no longer give +1 attack (allow you to reroll any 1's now).

and even if it doesnt, your land raider wont have any suitable targets really.

i love baal predators for taking down 'stealers. no blast weapons, but so many shots! (4*twin linked str 6 (w/rending so you can hurt bigger things too), 6*str 5, 2*str 4. and wiht all but those last 2, anything less armoured than a marine wont get a save.). on open ground you can take out a squad of stealers in a single turn without much trouble. not bad for 135 points.
...but thats blood angels for you.

and talking of blood angels, i'm hoping that "New Marine models for a specific chapter" refers to the new blood angels codex and models thats been rumored :)

incidently, i can't really do a decent bloodangels army for 500 points :p by the time you've got 125 points in for lemartes, and 280 for 2 basic assault squads, and 10 points for a pair of jump packs... you have 85 points left - and no means to take out vehicles at all :p

suppose something like:
lemartes (3W chaplain w/ jump pack) (125)
2x tactical squad w/ plasma gun (130 each)
Furioso Dreadnaught w/ Flamer (105)
2x death company marines w/ jump packs (10 points)

got the chaplain and his marines to jump forwards, and be bloody tough against anything but anti-tank fire. got the tacticals to secure objectives and provide a bit of anti-infantry and light vehicle fire. got the dreadnaught for being tough and deadly at close range.

few things i dont like about this army though - tactical squads rather than assault squads for one thing. the other thing is not giving the dreadnaught its upgrades (death company dreadnaught to give it more attacks, extra armour so it can keep moving if stunned, and venerable so i can force people to reroll their damage roll), but they cost a total of 60 points.
i might be tempted in fact to take a speeder instead of the dread, and give it a multimelta and assault cannon... mmm...

...sorry, i realise you wernt really asking about blood angels, but they're what i know best :p
