Addons

Yep, as a programmer I think the UI is a very powerful tool and alot of fun to develop for. As a player I think it has too much power and can be used to make decisions for people that I think lessen the difficulty of an already pretty simplist game.

Blimey! All I wanted was a proggy to show me what I had equiped when looking at another item so as I dont have to be arsed and press c :)
I never get a character past 50 odd anyway, dont raid or instance much, dip in and out intermitently, and carnt be arsed to do complicated maths such as comparing two numbers, dont really care anyway!
Wonder if there is a guild for slackers?

I thought the default UI did that compare thing anyway. Don't get me wrong the UI addons can be really good, I just think they can be overused by some people

How can people who aren't end-game raiders say that using mods makes the game too easy? It clearly isn't too easy for them, or they'd be pwning raids and/or arenas.

Ah right, it covers up their shame for sucking with a smug feeling of moral superiority.

Whee I can troll too! :troll:

The default ui does it if you press shift while mousing over an object in your bag. I carnt be arsed to press shift, hence the needed addon. I50 addons? Im clearly slacking there too - I only have 2 :(

LOL m8, I think it's called CUK :D

Seriously, try and get higher it is worth it.
I have always done the same, but once I hit outland and then Northrend I have really enjoyed the game and stuck with 1 char.

The best way to enjoy WoW is to find a group of mates, pick one or two nights and only play that char when you are all around, like what DDO players do, you'll all enjoy going over the old content with friends, not have to argue about loot because most will be twinked via the AH. It's also can help restrict play a little because you find you have the most fun on those evenings.

When Talili and I came back to WoW we had a pile of fun with CUK, naked gnome runs, remote control tanks and the never realised dream of naked gnome bungee jumping, I'm occasionally tempted to come back, but with the house move and iPhone OS update and then new house to enjoy it's not high on the list (though living for one month in x-student digs between houses you never know what could happen)

@Chick: Thanks, that means alot if that is what you think of me

so the best way to enjoy wow is to spend nearly all of your time not playing it, and the time that you *do* spend playing it, you should spend doing old content with twinked characters?

I've always thought it would be quite interesting to have a regular playing group of 5 people and work our way though every dungeon in the game.

The catch being they can only use items/potions they make themselves from Tradeskills (within the group) - all drop/quest items have to be sold on and no buying from the AH. :)

We used to play Diablo hardcore like that, saved grief over your godly items when you (inevitably) died if you were wearing shit :)

/edit suggest a server and Id have a go Janie. My main problem, the one that mostly keeps me away from high end content/raids/instancing etc is trying to fit the bloody game round family life.

plus a change, plus c'est la mme chose...

Here's a deal; if you don't mock us raiders (or ex in my case) for using ebil UI mods and going raiding, we wont mock you for running around in greens. ;)

It's hypocritical to chastise raiders for telling people how to play the game, then do the same thing yourself.
People want different things. Personally, I've done all the old instances with small groups of friends. Yes, I had a lot of fun, but apart from the occasional nostalgic run, they hold no interest for me anymore. That's why I moved onto raiding, for new challenges.

You should all come play TF2 tbh. No evil mods or loot there. ;)

Sorry, I should have said that's the way I generally enjoy an MMO. Playing with friends, and I generally find more fun in a slighly organised timing because then I knew when to schedule my playtime, not having to fit round family life, but more that I knew I could log on at that time and do stuff, otherwise I used to find myself logging in and hours later having not really done anything.

So in answer to what you said Zeus:
so the best way to enjoy wow is to spend nearly all of your time not playing it - No, the way I enjoy would be to only log in when I know there is something to do, and if that means I already know who I'm playing with then that's fine as well. Otherwise it's easy to fall into the trap of just logging in and using WoW as something to pass the time rather than to actually enjoy, if that makes sense ?

and the time that you *do* spend playing it, you should spend doing old content with twinked characters? - Not exactly, twinking would be inevitable because some of the people playing with you would inevitably be current players, and as for the content as all the people who "raid" repeat the end content ad-infinitum night after night I imagine they would find it a nice change and even challenging, so I don't see the issue there ?

That is though purely my thoughts, I want to play casually, not log on every night, not constantly raid, just enjoy whatever is going on, on the times when I do actually log into the game.

And I don't mock raiders, is simply something I don't understand the strength in which it drives some people, you only have to look at most guilds and the issues always bubble up the most around raiding, which to me at least boils down to pixels in a computer game and I don't see he reason to get so worked up about. But then I knew I was addicted to EQ, and it has changed how I play MMO's since then, dunno

on the subject of addiction, i did find mondays xkcd comic amusing... ( http://xkcd.com/597/ ) :p

the guild i'm in very rarely has issues about raiding and loot. we have issues with certain individuals being lootwhores and shite at raiding, but thats really a seperate issue :p. (i find it amusing that one of our 'tanks' hasnt been present at any of our first-kills, because raids with him tanking tend to go so badly :p)

janie - i had a similar idea that i plan to do at some point. get 25 people (or 10 or 5, but then your limited in how far you can take it) with level 80 characters. split into groups of 5 (preferably with a tank and healer in each) remove all your items - throw them in the bank. start doing instances. you can only do each instance once. you can only wear what you get from instances, or what you can make for yourself from materials you find in the instance (or whilst directly on your way to an instance. if you mine some copper on the way to deadmines, thats fine. an afternoon spent farming saronite in storm peaks is not :p) if you get stuck halfway through an instance, then when you redo it you must not take any loot from the section you'd already cleared (even random drops from trash, etc.). I think it'd be fun! i reckon it would start getting hard around level 60-70 - when your tanks still wearing dps green mail that dropped in shadowfang keep :p
i i considered people to buy stuff from the AH, but it would have to be with gold you earned from doing instances (and didnt spend on repairs) so that might require too much effort to track, rather than just saying 'no buying stuff'.
