Boardgames boardgames.....
I thought id post my collection of board games with some musings around them. Anyone played any of these and have differing/similar opinions?
/ Mansions of Madness (plus several PoD expansions) : Ive only played this a couple / three times total and i love it. More so than Arkham Horror. The downside is it needs 2 people minimum to play given you need a keeper and player(s). Id rate this a solid 8/10
/ Betrayal at house on the hill: I cannot find a way to enjoy this game. Ive played through it serveral times and whilst the mechanics of one of hte players becomes the betrayer is interesting i never really enjoy it. That said some of my gaming group do. 6/10
/ Descent- Journeys underground:Average at best. Takes for ever to set up and then an equally long time to play. Ive played games of this where in 4 hours the players barely make it past 2nd or 3rd chamber. Models are pretty good. 5/10
/ Memoir 44: My sons go to game. Great, simple war game. Easy setup, easy play mechanics, pretty good fun all around. 8/10
/ Zombies: (+1 expansion I own) historically my groups go to game for zombie slaying fun. easy to play. Difficult to master ad brings out the evil in your friends. 8/10
/ Space hulk (3rd): I love this game. It doesnt come out much though. NEver got round to painting the mini's either. For the nostalic feeling id give this an 8/10. But for playability: 7/10
/ Arkham Horror: Thematically its brilliant. Play wise: I havent a fooking clue. one of those need to have in the collections but will likely never play it kind of games. My gaming group has little to no interest in playing it either which emphasises the likelyhood of it never being played. 6/10
/ Dominion (first set): love the mechanics of this game. Another regular goto game for the group. never tire of this and everytime there are different strategies to try to win. Easy to pick up and play with a definate 'thats how it works' stage. 9/10
/ Xwing: The new FFG starwars mini'sgame, spiritual successor to Wings of War. For that reason alone plus its Starwars it gets a sound 9/10.
/ Runebound: Played it twice. Probably wont play it again. Nuff said. 4/10
/ Dungeon (the 2nd edition. Wotc releasing a new version this month). Havent touched it in years but it was one of those games i had as a child. nostalic reasons alone keep it in the collection. 4/10
/ Lord of the Rings LCG: I really want to enjoy this game. But no matter how many times i try to play it I simply dont. I dont seem to have the patience to work out the strategy with the cards. And Ive got a shed load of it (all the first expansion set, khazad dum + 2 core sets) so i really have little to no excuse. 4/10
/ Eclipse - dawn of a new galaxy: Oh this one is a good game. Definately worth the 60 i threw down to pick it up . think a quicker twilight imperium with all the empire building, exploration, experimentation and killing of your opponents 10/10
/ Merchants and Mauraders: Think the old PC sid meirs Pirates game and this is it, in board game format. Great fun. Good playthrough but perhaps not as popular amongst the group as say Eclipse. Ive converted at least 1 person here into getting it. 9/10
/ Zombicide: picked it up last week. Fooking A+**+. Beats all the other zombie games ive seen hands down so far. Looking forward to many a game with this one and you can solo play it! yay 10/10
/Dust tactics: love the simplicity of this boar/wargame. mini's are excellent value and great quality. Have a huge amount of money sunk into this one (probably 400-500) and still dont have all the mini's. Great thing is my 8yr old can play and win as well. 10/10
/ Legend of Drizzt: I like this as a dnd 4e based minis game. Its simpler to play than Descent and can be played solo. Each of the monsters have their own logic structure to determine the actions they made. Id give this a 9/10 and a better game than Descent.
Might be more as i think of them but thats pretty much my base game collection.
