Early Wii Pre-order (not open to public till this evening)

Treebeard

Ranger of the North
Taken from Kotaku:

Despite a generally cool reception by critics, Ubisoft's Red Steel sold a ton. Bested only by Nintendo's own Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, the game was a certified hit for the Wii.

It should come as no surprise that Ubisoft is planning a sequel (or spin-off) as nearly confirmed by the company's official site. In a job posting for a Paris-based gamed designer, Ubisoft seeks a candidate to aid in the "continuation of Red Steel". The posting also seems to indicate interest in finding an applicant with online experience, indicating that the Red Steel sequel will feature online play.

Expect a formal announcement soon.

Love Golden Axe, a classic:

Sega just announced, and tons of your helpful readers just confirmed, that both Golden Axe and Ecco the Dolphin have popped up on the Wii Shop Channel.

Ohh nice one :D

And is Metroid and both those Mario one's released on 22nd Dec ? I see elebits is 22nd Dec (woot I thought it was feb)
January = mario galaxy, trauma centre, smooth moves, mario strikers (ohhh another one that slipped my mind)
Feb = Avatar, Metroid
March = Mario Smash Brawl

The plus side of all that (assuming they are right which I'm not convinced at as I looked on play.com, don't know a better place), I'll get to play and enjoy each game rather than them all arriving at once and me being in a quandary as to which one to play :D

I'm also looking forward to the Baja series on the Wii at some point next year, I might even hold out on them over Excite Trucks.

Re the Bluetooth thing on the PS3
PS3 supports up to 7 blue tooth devices
which means in real life terms
Bluetooth remote (for watching movies if that's your thing)
4 6AXIS controllers
2 wireless headsets and 2 without headsets

or 4 controllers and 3 headsets and one person without headset

or 3 controllers and 4 headset, now he can hear what's going on but can't play

Which is pretty crazy for a machine of that price considering out the box the 360 works with 4 controllers, 4 wireless headsets and anything else you care to use with it.

And if this source is true and Wi-Fi and bluetooth are on switch ... well it's a pretty poor show for such an expensive machine.

Yeah, looks like the release dates for those games have slipped. Pretty shit really. Have to find something else to ask for.

I got to try this recently and as much as agreeing with Ky makes me physically ill, I thought it was very kiddy. I couldn't believe you don't actually move your player around - which instantly kills 90% of the tactics and fun. The controller works on a very basic level, you swing your player swings, but the shot you play seems pretty random to say the least. Top Spin it wasn't!!

/Sorry Gottaa but it'll give you something to rant about while bored at work :)

Oh dear Janie ... now Morgyn is going to get all high and mighty again and report you to the admins for thread necromancy :(

I don't really mind what people say that have actually tried it though Janie, tennis I find boring, the two sports ... well just about three sports titles I like are in order of fun-nes

Bowling
Boxing
Golf

But at the end of the day it's a free game bundled with the console so I wasn't really expecting something like topspin, and for my money it'll be rather hard controlling movement with the nunchuk while swinging with the wii-mote, at least until there is a wireless nunchuk.

Maybe give it a spin again when there proper tennis games are out if that's your thing. I'll happily stick with bowling, COD3 and Zelda, still looking forward to Eledees which I think is the one released next that I'm after :)

I quite like Tennis...it's a lot more skilful than it initially seems...basically, the game is about timing, and development of the court (sure, you can't run around, but the spin you load the ball with, and the position you hit it into naturally determines where the other players have to be to make the shot. After that, it's all about exploiting the space, which imo makes it quite a tactical affair really).

Spoiling for a fight again? Difference is when someone posts something valid to a thread, not just "Bump".

I take it you DO need that hug.

As far as tennis goes I'd have to say that my view of it was more like Janie's than your's Ent. Try as I might I couldn't seem to affect where the ball went or the power of the shot which I did, it is true that my timing sucked on it (trying to spot the ball was a game in itself for me). I have found the spin in bowling very accurate the more I play, to the point while a strike still feels more luck than skill I pretty much get a spare every bowl now, with the added advantage I don't end up pulling my shoulder out like I do with a normal heavy bowling ball.

Might have to give tennis another spin though and see if it's something I just needed to put more effort in.

Doggin' at a spot near you
Tennis is what got my wife into the Wii, we enjoyed 3 hours of it.

Mind you she does go overboard almost to the extreme of diving for the ball, she lunges, parries, and aces me way too often.....

Bowling is very good
Baseball is my close sencond though and if only for the fact that I can wiggle my bat in the air, or point into the stadium, right before I dramatically ......"FOWL BALL!" :p

Smooth moves is cool and has the kids entertain for ages, amazing how sensative the remote is,too.

surely you can just go to any pub in central Leeds on a saturday night and get a kicking for free cant you roch? :)

Had my first go on the Wii last night. Was good fun, though as others have said, most of it is gimmicks. Fun gimmicks, but gimmicks none the less.

Didn't like the bowling game, though I don't like bowling IRL, so the gaming equivalent has about as much appeal to me as Virtual Clothes-Shopping-With-The-Missus.

Boxing was good fun, but control was clunky.
There was a game-medley which was a good laugh (eg. passing controller to opponent after choosing a type of action they have to perform with it), but after you learn the actions, i suspect the excitement will fade.
Red Steel was pretty good, though the controls still don't beat mouse+keyboard. Pointer > joypad, and the sword fighting's a refreshing change, but I still spend a lot of the time spinning round in circles. :D
I also hope the sword fighting gets harder later, as the small bit I tried seemed overly easy. Parry when he starts to attack, then hit him a couple of times with the right. Response time's slow too, but /shrug limits of technology I presume.

I heard that a lot of the crappy reviews of Red Steel were due to the E3 Preview. The development team apparently only had the controller software for a week beforehand, so it was, unsurprisingly rushed. Seems okay to me so far...

So yeah, in conclusion, I can see more nights of going round mates and lashing about drunkenly with the controller, but I'm not going to buy one, and if I want depth to a game, I'll look elsewhere.

Most in depth game on the Wii right now is Zelda, I don't think anything else really comes close right now.
