DK starting area is brilliant. killing cowering civilians, using gattling ship-mounted cannons to kill scarlets, turning miners into ghouls, turning skulls into healing potions... all lots of fun.

http://kotaku.com/5061980/starcraft-ii-single-player-is-a-trilogy (just as a reference point of why I think Blizzard = milking things, the fact people stand there and open there wallets still is a totally different debate though).

i cant really see them as 'milking' when their games are still the best value for money games i've ever bought.
diablo 2. 30 what, 8 years ago or something? still playing it occasionally.
starcraft. same only older. still play it through occasionally.
warcraft 3. i dont play it much, but my brother still does loads on b.net.
wow. yes its an mmo so its cost me lots, but taken as a /hr playing... its fuck all.
compare that to pretty much anything else (from crysis, to neverwinter nights, supreme commander, and countless others of many many genres. oh yes, and including console games for you console fanbois reading this.)
oh yes, and the SC2 thing that people are whining about, how about the fact that each game is currently stated as being as long as the original SC? and that they're likely to only charge xp-pack prices for zerg and protoss?

and git - i dont really buy the claim that wow is bad for the mmo industry. if it wasnt for wow, the mmo 'industry' as a whole would probably still be selling a few hundred thousand of each game, and trying madly to copy EQ.

Isn't that still how it is though except people are copying Warcraft? I've no idea how many WAR or LOTRO have sold, maybe its millions as well.

As long as an MMO sells enough and keeps enough subscribers to keep it running and being patched it doesn't really matter how many though does it ?

I would be interested to see numbers though, and liked early EQ when you saw an actual player count on each server, but we'll never go back to that. I'd say with WAR as an average pick the total number of servers, multiply by 10,000 (I believe the server cap is 10,000 each side, so half on each server seems fair), and you'll get the rough number of players.

And all anyone is actually copying is really really old MUD's running a MUD client, it's basically the same except 3d graphics replace text spam (I'm pretty sure at one point EQ was sued for copying some MUD library stuff, and faded memory thinks Sony settled out of court)

Anyway, what is WOTLK actually like ? ignoring the new class, what's the content focusing on ?

well thats kinda my point. wow hasnt been 'bad' for the industry - the rest of the industry is still in the state it was, and would still be in that state if wow hadn't existed. i still maintain wow is good for the industry as a whole, because as people get bored of wow, they play other mmos - but thats hard to prove.

I would just like to add.......F***ing Amazon!!

Ive had 3 copies on order since September sometime, they were supposed to have been sent out 3 days ago, and Im still waiting for them to arrive.

Bertyr and my eldest waited (1st in the queue) at our local Tescos to get a copy each and, thanks to Flight who I will love forever, I now have a key. so can play.

When the discs arrive, 2 can go back with a snotty note inside of them.

Ok had my rant. I fank you :D

I wouldn't order online from anyone but Game these days.

They give you 2nd class delivery for free but everything I buy arrives the day after they send it and WotLK turned up first thing yesterday.

Which one of the two starting area's is the best one to head to first (in terms of visuals and stuff to do)?
I remenber going though the portal for the first time in 'The Burning Crusade' and absolutely hating the utter blandness of Hellfire Peninsular (sp?).

Play turned up today and amazon copy still hasnt arrived. Went to Tesco. utter bollox how late they both are

Don't think either guarantee pre orders arriving on time do they? at least not with free delivery.

Also pre ordered mine from game and had it on the 12th. Wouldn't touch the shops with a barge pole but the online store seems to be doing something right.
