He replaced a squad that won the Champions League against a good Milan side with a squad that lost the Champions League against a poor Milan team
Champions League winners Jerzy Dudek, Josemi and Djimi Traore; each worth 15m of anyones money
Milan were only poor because our midfield countered them all over the park. I've never seen Kaka marked out of a game the way Mascherano did last night. Whenever their midfield got the ball it was too deep for them to do anything with it, while Gattuso was reduced to running all over the pitch fouling everyone.
They scored a lucky deflected free kick; we gambled and took Masch off and within a few minutes Kaka plays a genius through ball for the second goal.
Tactically, Rafa played it brilliantly. The problem is our wingers and attackers aren't good enough.
Giggs, Ronaldo, Rooney
Robben, Drogba
Rosicky, Henry, Hleb (admittedly Hleb and Rosicky aren't wingers but they are class)
Zenden, Kuyt,
Pick the odd one out
I'd imagine no excuses next season though mate and many Liverpool fans will be expecting a serious go for the Premiership?
I'd imagine the press and other teams fans will see it that way mate, but I don't think LFC fans will. Theres a lot of realism about what we've discussed in this thread both at the club and amongst the supporters. In a way, given the rebuilding Rafa has had to do in every respect, with incompetence at board level, its almost like his first season coming up. A lot will depend on how many first team players need to integrate and whether they are suited to the Prem - thats always a gamble.
I will be hugely surprised if we don't do better in the Prem next term, but LFC fans won't get on Rafas back if it takes another two years to make major progress.
