They'll need to if they want to win the Prem. Not sure where all of these World Class players are coming from though with all the money floating about this summer.

I wonder if Rafa has gone as far as he can go. I don't think the Liverpool team can win the Prem as it is currently structured.

I'd agree with the present squad, but I don't think its far off. Don't forget Rafa has had to replace the entire squad, youth setup and reserves, not to mention the first team, thanks to Houllier.

We battered the Mancs this season and last season, both times to lose to last minute goals totally against the whole game. The only team that has given us serious problems, funnily enough, were Arsenal at your gaff, but you were unplayeable that day.

In the grand scheme of things, its not a bad thing we didn't win last night as it might have made the new owners think we are better than we are.

Rafa agrees with you too Tree.
Its a good point that we've spent no more than 6-9mill on all our strikers and players like Zenden came in on frees. The biggest change the new owners will bring in is to counter the incompetence of our Chief Exec (Rick Parry) and our non existing marketing dept etc. Best thing they could do would be to bring David Dein in.

As an aside, how good is Mascherano and how the fekk didn't he play for the Hammers? Do you think Pardew and Curbishley watched him last night and though, ' Yeah he isn't bad but he is no Nigel Quashie'

Its not just me - everyone I know that follows football reckons he's pretty poor - running around like a loon does not make you a quality centre forward.

I agree he's not good enough or maybe he's not suited the the English game, but I can't see him being sold it the summer either unless it in part exchange for someone like Teves.

I'd imagine no excuses next season though mate and many Liverpool fans will be expecting a serious go for the Premiership?

He replaced a squad that won the Champions League against a good Milan side with a squad that lost the Champions League against a poor Milan team :p

Champions League winners Jerzy Dudek, Josemi and Djimi Traore; each worth 15m of anyones money :)

Milan were only poor because our midfield countered them all over the park. I've never seen Kaka marked out of a game the way Mascherano did last night. Whenever their midfield got the ball it was too deep for them to do anything with it, while Gattuso was reduced to running all over the pitch fouling everyone.

They scored a lucky deflected free kick; we gambled and took Masch off and within a few minutes Kaka plays a genius through ball for the second goal.

Tactically, Rafa played it brilliantly. The problem is our wingers and attackers aren't good enough.

Giggs, Ronaldo, Rooney

Robben, Drogba

Rosicky, Henry, Hleb (admittedly Hleb and Rosicky aren't wingers but they are class)

Zenden, Kuyt,

Pick the odd one out :D

I'd imagine the press and other teams fans will see it that way mate, but I don't think LFC fans will. Theres a lot of realism about what we've discussed in this thread both at the club and amongst the supporters. In a way, given the rebuilding Rafa has had to do in every respect, with incompetence at board level, its almost like his first season coming up. A lot will depend on how many first team players need to integrate and whether they are suited to the Prem - thats always a gamble.

I will be hugely surprised if we don't do better in the Prem next term, but LFC fans won't get on Rafas back if it takes another two years to make major progress.

Kuyt, Bellemy, Crouch, Zenden, Gonzales, Pennant - All Rafa's signing? (not to mention that totally awful winger that was part of the Owen to Madrid transfer, what was his name?).

And Josemi was one of Rafa first signing, I remenber you banging on about how great he was going to be :p

Oh and i'm thinking of casting you as Inzaghi on my villians thread :p

I thought Liverpool were unlucky, the lucky goal knocked the wind out of them a bit and they never really seem to get the confidence back that they showed in the first 44 minutes.

Even tho they didnt win, from a fairly neutral supporter point of view, im just happy to see English teams conistantly making their mark in Europe and hope it continues...

...tho not Spurs... they can fuck off to the conference for all i care :D

The mighty Spurs will be gracing the UEFA Cup next season once again. I foresee them making it all the way to meeting a decent team.

Janie mate, feel free to suggest 3 wingers and 3 forwards who you could have signed better than those 6 for a combined 24mill. And they might not be good enough for a top 4 side, but they got us to the CL Final.

6 forwards, 24mill - go ahead :) At the moment those 6 players, plus Fowler on a free, have been our only options on the wing and in attack.

Pederson (Blackburn) instead of Pennant - I think the 6.7 million (rising to 8) you paid for Pennant would have got Pederson last summer.
Ryan Babel is someone whose been linked to Arsenal so he's probably pretty decent and he seems to be valued at around 6 million. (Mark Gonzales cost 4.5 million appariently)

I wouldn't have let Owen go :p And in Hindsight Berbetov and McCartney (11 + 2 million) would be better than Kuyt and Bellamy (8 + 6 Million).

That leaves crouch or 7million - which would probably get you SWP.

Reasonable arguments there from the Janie.

Yeah, except I'm not sure 4 players is enough for both wings and forward line for a season.

Had McCarthy in my Fantasy Football. Only looked and did changes once in the season. was around Christmas - sold McCarthy and bought Henry. That week Henry got injured and McCarthy started scoring.

wtfpwned !

Pederson, Babel, Saskatchewan Wheat Pool & you'd still have 'Arry Kewl!
Molotov, Jenny McCarthy, Owen & Fowler.

That's 8 :p and then there Luis Garcia who i'm never sure if he's a winger or striker.
