Went into Tesco and was going to pick it up, 25 for the PC version, 34 for the 360 or PS3 ... never really noticed or paid attention to the difference in price, it stayed on the shelf, will get it when it's 25 on the console, later this week will have LBP anyway to keep Talili and I amused till x-mas.

Was tempted though by Saints Row after seeing Yahtzee review it, all the fun of GTA without the crappy bits

Anyone found much in the way of companions yet? I found Dogmeat last night which was pretty cool. The only other person I've found so far is Jerico in Megaton who wouldn't join me because my Karma is to high. Admittedly I'm yet to goto any other town aside from Megaton yet (still doing the survival guide quests).

If you make a town hostile say by hacking into the computer in the shop when someone is watching you, do they stop hating you after a bit?

I relog at that point :p
Rivet City forgave me, but I think that's a bit different.

Soupy - found another one, but my morals were too high (hooker at a playboy mansion on the way to Rivet City).
I know there're two companions (plus dogmeat, who's an extra) for each morality level, so 6 (plus dogmeat).

There's 2 not karma related, and 2 for each Karma rating, Good, Neutral and Evil so you can have 4 per play through out of a total of 8

i've got a paladin with me at the moment. damn good fighter, but boy does she get through 5mm ammo quickly... i've had to take the minigun off her, so she just uses a sledgehammer now until things get messy, then i have to find her and give her a gun :p

Not sure if it's because of never playing the other games, but i'm pretty underwhelmed so far by Fallout 3.

Whilst the world is beautiful to look at, and fairly processor light considering how good it looks, the sheer amount of ambling about you have to do even early on is getting pretty tedious. Couple that with the clunky feeling combat mechanics and overly-fiddly controls out of combat andyou end up wondering what all the fuss is about. It feels overly complicated for the emotional pay offs that are reaped from the game, though i'm still only several missions into Megaton. It takes too long to get anywhere, and once yuo do it's bastard hard to kill anything without getting shredded by their 5 automatic weapon wielding mates as you wasted all your 17 bullets on a armored crab thing *gah*.

Am i missing something, do you need to give it more time to grow or is it one of them 'some love, some hate' games. I am in general a pretty big fan of the whole action/rpg game genre, or thought so, but this feels pretty soulless.

I sort off know where you are coming from. Over the last few days for me the game swings between brilliance and damn right boring, I find when I have a purpose heading out to do a quest forinstance the game is good fun, some of the quests are multilayered and offer alot of options. However just wandering around the wastelands exploring I just find gets surprisingly tedious quickly.

meh, to hear the fallout fanbois talk, anyone thats played the first 2 games should utterly hate this one.
the reasons for this hatred are many and diverse, ranging from realism (though they're unclear on whether it needs more or less of it), the view point change (because everyone knows isometric rpgs sell so well these days), the world not being as big (i find this one most amusing. fallout 1/2's worlds were only big because they said they were. they were mostly empty. its like saying mass effect has the biggest game world ever because it covers the whole universe), and the humor not being 'right' (however you define that), and everything in between.

'takes too long to get everywhere'... hmm, well, i guess it kinda does, but then it *should* take a while to walk across the wasteland. and once youve been somewhere you can fast travel anyway. as for dying cause you've got no ammo... i'm just gonna call you a nub and be done with it :p i've never really had ammo issues - even when fighting through bastard hard fire ants, i always had 'enough', i just spent the whole time worrying that i might run out - which i guess is how it should be. i'd suggest making sure you buy ammo from shops when you get the chance - 10mm and 5.56mm are both cheap even with a low barter skill, and will let you get by.

i quite like it - but then i like fallout, rpgs, shooters, etc...
what i'd recomend is a bit of an explore. dont focus on the main quest, because imo its about the weakest part of the game :p that said there are some good bits in it, but a lot of my fun has been while wandering off doing my own thing. (like, for example, missing Megaton at first, and wandering round DC for an hour or so wondering where this town was meant to be :p)

Thinking about it, the strange form of OCD i am aflicted with, that leads me to break every barrel, open every box, talk to every person, search every house, kill every mob bcould be the problem.
I could try not too.
but
Just because the last 130 metal boxes had crap in, doesn't mean this one won't have the uber epix gun of imba pwnz0rage

You don't get uber guns from boxes etc. They're useful to check for ammo and cash, and there're a few nice crafted items you can make later on, but don't worry too much about hoarding stuff.

And yeah, I love wandering around the wastelands with my trusty hunting rifle. :D

Are you using targeting, Chick? You can play it as a plain FPS in realtime, but targeting really helps, especially when you start pumping up combat feats. I have a really high chance to get headshots with small guns now, love it. :D
Ammo's intentionally a little scarce, yes. Always clear out traders of the useful stuff when you get the chance. When your accuracy improves, you'll use less ammo.
Oh, and guzzle stimpacks like a crazy man. ;)

Have been away so only started last night but loving it so far.

I know some people don't like the style of gameplay but I left the vault and spent most of the next few hours just roaming. Found some great sites to pilfer and explore.

Its what I loved about Oblivion. You can follow the main quest if you want but I prefer wandering around, spotting a landmark and then moving towards it to investigate. Generally there is always something to see and most places have a story to tell. The high school site for example was great. The atmosphere really is something as well.

I did eventually reach Megaton and pick up some quests and thought the town was well designed.

I think they've got the NPC's down better than Oblivion. You don't seem to get random vampires walk up to each other in a dungeon enquiring about the weather.

Combat is much improved over Oblivion although at the moment I'm finding that VATS is making it a bit easy. Its mostly a case of move in to about 5-10 feet and engage VATS. My pistol skill is only 20 but at close range its about 85-90% to hit the head and it crits a lot. God knows what it will be like when I find a weapon that I'm pumping my points into. I've only really come across renegades and some ants and what not though so far.

Graphics seem great, not sure why they have had a bit of critisism. You'll find more detailed textures in Gears or Resistance 2 but they do the job really well. The draw distance is huge and coming out of the vault was pretty amazing. This is the 360 version. I've read that the PC version on a decent machine is even more stunning?

I could spend many hours playing it but with Mines of Moria turning up in a couple of days it may not get as much play as it requires.

I traded it in for Gears2 over the weekend. Kept crashing out and then hit a bug whereby I screwed up the main quest by having visited a place too early in the game before reaching a certain part in the main quest (a known problem appariently). I just didn't have the motivation to restart with all the good games coming out soon.

"Mines of Moria"

I swear that was an expansion to the middle earth rpg (the one based off rolemaster) MERP

Which is the best game, in terms of longer play and fun,
Fallout 3 or Fable 2?

Tempted to buy my last game for a while.

Picked up Fallout 3 yesterday......I like it :)
It isn't often I forget the time and find myself playing past my usual bedtime

The dialogue is less stilted than Mass Effect and the combat is fun, u gotta love the VATS system.
