Beth and I have just watched our way through Catweazel series 1 and 2, and yes its Richard carpenter so youd expect it, but the quality of writing is amazing when compared to todays "early evening weekend kids/adults watch together" fare.

We watch it as a family as well for the same reason's but even Fred has started to question some of the logic.

Early evening Saturday entertainment can still provoke the odd thought or two if the writers have the foggiest.

Totally downhill since Michelle Ryan turned up gurning into a pool of water for the last 2 episodes terrible character, terrible actress.

Before janie starts slating tonighs episode I want to say I thought it was the best episode so far. The Griffon was superb and the fights well choreographed.

If this is a sign of whats to come I will be watching a long time.

They can bring back Lancelot whenever they like ;)

I actually drooled ...oops watched it all and thought it was good. Marcus was convinced he had seen one of those birdies earlier sat in our tree :D

Definately the best episode, the effects were decent (although it's still looks rubbish whenever a person has to interact with the monster, see Lancelot vs the gyphon at the start). The plot was solid and no Michelle Ryan to stink up the screen!

Anyone else playing the 'who will get thrown in the jail' this week game? ;)

Missed all but episode 1 now :(
DVD or Teleport will have to be. Probably will buy it, collecting anything with swords or sorcery in it.

Didn't realise Griffins could breath fire though. :)

Village on fire and villagers returning to Spamalot with soot marks on their clothing.

Oh and when Arthur was on the floor holding the shield above him where were the knights....oh they where behind him.. all cowering behind their shields. pah! knights my backside. :)

Overall enjoyed it but I disagree with peeps and say this is the weakest yet and has been sliding downhill since the first episode. :)

Village on fire cos people ran in panic, knocked over a torch, and everything catches light

As for the knights bit I took that to be on purpose, Arthur's fathers idea of only nobility being knights meaning you would end up with wimps who wouldn't want to actually put themselves at risk, they all seemed sheepish about advancing, which made Lancelot look even better, maybe a little overdone but it worked.

Only real issue I've had is Merlin seemed all powerful doing making without using words, and since then even to move something he now seems to have to say something. All in all I really like the program though

I thought the whole faking of being of noble bloodline was abit of a Knights Tale ripoff, not that it really bothered me as Knights Tale is one of my fav fun movies.

Well... A Remedy to Cure Ills was the best episode yet, and the trailer for the next one looks damn good too.

Should be fun to watch...

I thought its stooped to new depths of stupid last night. :)

The plot was just lazy, badly written and predictable. It has fallen into a formula of Uther acts daft and does something really stupid, Merlin saves the day in secret to all but Victor (what shocking acting that was) while Arthur and Morganna simper at Uthers daftness. So many silly plot mistakes and nonsense last night I thought it was a Children in Need special put together at the last minute.

On average so far its way worse than Robin Hood.

Stick to period drama please BBC.

Thought it was an average episode.
I do think it's much better than Robin hoody though. Both suffer from predictable plotting, but I think the key characters in Merlin are much better acted and therefore more likeable than Robin Hood. Richard Wilson, Tony Head and the 2 leads playing Merlin and Arthur are all doing a good job, whereas the actors in Robin Hood were mostly shite (Jonas Armstrong was a terrible, terrible lead - and his 'comedy' sidekick was also hateful). Also Robins comicbook feats of archery were ridiculas, the fighting in Merlin seems more grounded in reality.

I think if they upped the script quality and took a few gambles everything else is in place to have a quality product.

Oh incidently I turned on the TV to watch Merlin a few minutes early and witnessed the worst show I think i've ever seen 'Hole in the Wall'. It's premise seemed to be 2 teams of Z list Celebs (I reconised Vanessa Feltz only) take it in turns to jump though a hole in a wall that moves towards them, if they fail they get knocked into a pool of water. That was the entire show.................WTH?

The original Japanese version is great. This is a pale imitation.
