Merlin

Does all that translate into "I thought Arthur was abit of alright" ? ;)

When I first saw Arthur I thought the actor looked all wrong, way to wimpy looking. But I actually think he's done really well in the role, his interactions with Merlin and Morgana are normally the highlights of the episodes, even if the dialog is abit sloppy or obvious he delievers it well.

Incidently to answer your question. No I don't thnk he's abit of alright, too young :p

Aye Oliver Tobias. Was in another mint telly series, Lukes Kingdom which had all the trademarks of '70s drama I.e Incest, colonial locations and smouldering male leads ;)

Belters! I could only find the hacked about version Arthur the young warlord - apparently the americans bought the rights to it, chopped bits out of each episode and released it a s a "film".

If you haven't seen it and like RoS, you will probably like this . One memorable bit is the treatment of the "Sword in the Stone" shtick. Arthur calls all the other warlords to his Dun and has a huge rock, too heavy for one man to lift, placed on it. In an attempt to show the others that working together is the best plan, he gets them each to put a hand under the stone and lift - he grabs the sword and pulls it out, showing what teamwork can achieve. The others of course go away grumbling and plotting, believing that the incident shows that Arthur would leave them to do all the work while grabing the glory for himself. Its excelent writing and has some great old british actors in it.

The problem with Arthurian myth is - what version of the stories do you set it in? Celtic Arthur from The Mabinogion and Welsh Annals? Early medieval Geofrey of Monmouth which has Arthur as emperor of Europe? Angevin Chretien de troyes and his "Courtly Love Arthur? The bit strange vesion from the Parsifal stuf of Wolfram von Eisenbach? Then there is the 14c late medieaval version of Malory, the per-Raphaelite version of Tenyson and Burne-Jones - there is even a modern Re-Telling by T.H.White that changes the Lore substantialy enough to warrant being yeat another "Lore" version. its a very muddy playing field where our national hero is concerned.
Although it's a little slow to get going Stephen Lawheads Pendragon cycle is far and away my fav retelling of the Arthurian legend. But then i really enjoyed his Paradise War trilogy as a good fun light weight romp through ancient Celtic/Briton based Albion as well.

Well written, Lawhead, and much easier than ploughing through the Mabinogion.I really enjoyed some of his other stuff too.

Meh-lin.

Disapointing final episode - no real shocks, surprises, revelations, cliff hanger ending. It felt very much like just another episode also the whole Arthur dying Merlin needs to go on a quest to get the cure has been done earlier in the series (with the roles revered - Merlin the dying one and Arthur getting the cure). AT least Michelle Ryan awful character died.

Sorry Janie, but I disagree with you. :)

I enjoyed the last episode and was a strong finish. As for Michelle Ryan, I regard her as a better actress than you are making her out to be.

Opinions eh :)

I enjoyed it too. The threatening the dragon and defending himself form the fiery breath was a nice touch with the episode ending with the dragon screamin for merlin.
Makes you think there will be repurcussions for slaying a high priestess of the old religion.

Will be watching next series.

To elaborate.

I didn't actually think the episode was to bad I suppose (although it did seem alittle like one of the early episodes where Merlin was dying and Arthur had to go questing for the cure from the cave), it would have been a decent entry to serie if it was placed somewhere in the middle of the run. However after last weeks episode started to hint at Morgana starting to turn ebil and Uther becoming more and more paranoid, I was expecting this to continue and lead to a climax where something important happened. As it was I was left alittle underwhelmed - Michelle Ryans character was hinted at as to having history with Uther and having her just killed off without doing anything remotely interesting all series was lackluster. I guess Merlin not trusting the Dragon anymore could be concidered interesting I suppose, but it's hardly as huge climax (maybe if the Dragon escaped it would have been better).

And Michelle Ryan is a terrible actress even in Eastenders she was constantly mocked :p

Me and my family are still watching it. This series has had a couple of rehashes of earlier episodes so I guess they're running out of ideas. Ending the show now is probably the right thing to do. No idea who will die - it is a kid's show so I doubt if they'll do a Blake's 7 ending but they probably should :)

Cheers

I saw Army of Darkness (evil Dead 3) last week. It doesn't all work (the bit in the windmill is rather cringeworthy) but the final 30 minutes or so are still entertaining, and the original ending is much better than the cinema version.

Awesome film, though Dead by Dawn is still my favourite film ever. Please don't let these be the best bits of the new one :split:

My wife, kids and I still are glued to Merlin each week.

It has lost a little of the pace and novel/creative content over time with re-hashed stories in episodes but it still feel as if the story's advancing and the repetition's a lot less tedious than in series like the initially brilliant Smallville ("Oooh I know, let's knock out another series where 80% of the episodes are whistful glances or freak-of-the-week or both!") so I'm forgiving them that.

I can't see how it'll play out . . . as a family show it surely has to have a happy ending or at least a satisfying resolution . . .

The show got better with each series in my opinion.........until this latest one, which seems alittle lazy, although its still better than the first couple of series that had way to many slap stick comedy episodes.

Glad it's ending to be honest, it's had it's time - hopefully it'll have a decent climax. The cast have generally been pretty good and elevate it over its very average scripts.
