Damn this is a nice game.

The visuals are fantastic, wouldn't say the sounds are amazing, but they add to the atmosphere which I guess is what they're for. The lifespan of the game seems huge, I've been playing for hours, and I haven't even started on the main quest, just because I've been taking jobs from the fighters guild, working up the ranks. exploring the continent and doing odd jobs for people I've met. From what I've seen you can enchant your own items, make potions and combine spells all the things which added depth to daggerfall, in better detail. A very different style of game to sof. Though I think sof will finish days of play time before you've exhausted the options morrowind provides, perhapse months. If somehow I get tired of playing my custom fighter class I still haven't touched on the quests and direction playing a thief or mage class will give. Not sure if you can contract lycanthropy or vampirism this time around, but the in game books I've read indicate you can..
looking forward to summoning a daedra or two

In short imo; sof2 will be an action packed gib fest of fun, but once you get into morrowind it will be a much longer and more fulfilling experience.

I would say that this is the best single player RPG I've played in ages but I don't think everyone will like it for a lot of the reasons that Daggerfall was not everyone's cup of tea.

Its very open ended. When you start the game you get some instructions on what to do next in the main storyline but really you can go and do what you want. I mucked around the first village doing some quests for the locals and searching the local area for quite a few hours before I even thought of carrying out the orders I got at that start. It seems to be a big map and you can go anywhere on it from what I've seen so far. Really its a world you can live in for months and still find stuff to do and places to see. Its actually very much like an MMG world but with much better interaction with NPC's and quests and a good story running through it if you want to follow it.

Character creation and advancement is much like Daggerfall. You can choose any of the skills as your primary ones and be a tank/mage or thief/mage or thief/tank, you get the idea.

Graphics are great and they seem to cater to the GeForce 3 and 4, looks better on these cards but great anyway. The lighting, sound effects and music give it a lot of atmosphere. Some good voice acting too. I love the Dark Elf voices.

Fighting can take a bit of getting used to if you've never played Daggerfall. There is no health bar for the mobs and so you never know how close they are to dying. Makes fights more exciting I think. The weapons have different ways of using them. With a sword for example you can thrust or slash etc and each does different damage. I'm not sure if the different attacks do more/less damage depending on the armour type, its possible. I like archery, its been implemented pretty well. Lots of different magic schools; Alteration, Conjuration etc. Haven't really played with the magic much yet though apart from some healing and utility for my Dark Elf. You can also make your own spells and enchant your own items, repair you own armour etc. Apparently some people just spend days creating new magic items and spells.

I recommend it to anyone (Unless you really hated Daggerfall or hate games that are to open ended).

Its got the story and interaction of a single player game but with the open ended gameplay of an MMG. That just about sums it up.

Snapped this little beauty up in Game today.

Wonderful visuals and sound effects.

Heck the first stomy night had me jumping out of my chair with the thunder. Ok so my sound is maxed ;P

Love the way it guides you initially and then says Good luck your on your own now.

The feeling of total freedom is wonderful.

Only spent 5-6 hours wandering around first village, can't wait to explore the land or sea (giggles .. little snappy fishy bastards) and to try different classes out.

Works fine on my Athlon 850 with GeForce 2 , but then I have 1024 ram as well :)

Must dash... have to repair my silver shortsword before I can revisit this tomb. ;)

Okay, while trying to find some bandit hideout supposedly north of maar gan I stumbled across some big ruins. Wasn't having much luck with the place I was looking for so decided to have a poke around.
Found riches beyond my wildest dreams in there. must have items with value 3 times my current cash, though where I'll find a trader with enough cash to sell them to I don't know.
Here's the hitch, while fighting the stuff down there I got my ass cursed big time or summat.
My armor skills have all gone an unpleasent shade of red, and my af is about 1/3 what it should be.
Tried looking for potions and donating to shrines in temples, but no luck there, anyone tell me how I get the curse removed?

use the restore potions to restore those stats - may need a few though to restore them to previous glory.

I cant find people though with enough dosh to afford my warez - like weapons and stuff worth over 60,000 each - and its all quite heavy so lugging it about is annoying - ideas?

Not sure how you can restore penalies to armour.

I haven't reached Balmora yet but if I find any info I'll post here.

I've been too busy exploring shipwrecks, Undersea Grottos, tombs, and places a person isnt allowed to go. ;)

Water breathering potions are fun to have.

just finally got my copy yesterday ..... (play.com 24.99 free delivery)

I found the ship wreck just east of syned but tbh keep getting owned by the fish (and i cant water breathe yet!!)

So anyone give me some quick start tips to get up a couple of levels - so far cleared out the slavers (didnt seem to get a rewards though) found and sorted the tax collectors murderer. Turned down the 'heavy mob' quest and got totally owned by the ancestral ghost in the crypt (lol)

Still only lvl 1 so im not sur ewhat im doing wrong? Should i just go kill the crabs for a level or two?

Things I've picked up so far. Some spoilers.

Ten point gains in your main and secondary skills gives you a level and also gives multipliers to stat gains. It seems that the most efficient way to raise stats is to go 8/1/1 in your skills, then raise level. Its normally impossible to do this unless you buy your skill raises so they go where you want so its probably best to just enjoy the game but getting 8 gains in one skill and then 1 in two others seems to be the most efficient for stat gains.

Money spoiler. Buy common soul gems from Fadase Selvayn (she sells unlimited amounts) in Tel Branora (South East island) and use them to capture the souls of Ancestral Ghosts (found in most tombs, need magic weapon, easy to kill). Then sell the soul gems with the captured soul to a guy called Creeper in Caldera for 4000 gold a pop.

Atronach seems to be the best sign to be born under for the absorb magic ability (Much like Daggerfall). Saved me against magic users quite a few times. The penalty to this is that you do not regen magicka but you can get potions to restore this or it gets restored when you absorb a mages spell. If you also have Conjuration, summon an Ancestral Guardian/Ghost and attack it, it should cast a couple of spells at you before it melee's to help you regain your magicka, then kill it.

Get Mark and Recall spells asap (Mysticism skill) as it makes it much easier to bind in the place where you are currently doing quests, do the quest, and then recall back. Just saves walking back really.

Zed, you just need 10 points gained in your primary and secondary skills to gain a level, just keep fighting or using those skills until it tells you to meditate, then you'll gain a level.

Your opinion is worthless....

Never had a problem with either of those quests mate. Did you speak to the woman after you cleared out her rats? She should give you some gold.
