HC is a lil different from SC tho, from what i remember from playing HC, a lot of the stuff thats needed, ie resists, high life, high mana, isnt that hard to get. In fact some of it can be shop bought.

TBH Mark, the only reason we buy from shops is that we can't find the really 'uber' items...We have therefore adapted our play...as such HC'ers have probably more of an excuse to 'buy of ebay' then SC'ers...after all on SC if you die, you're hardly going to lose the item....

but wether it's SC or HC it still imho doesn't make it right...

At the end of the day it's upto the individual, and the group he/she plays with...I'll not lose any sleep over it....I just believe it is wrong...

Well i have bought stuff in a game before off eBay.

The reason i did it was the item(s) would have taken me a day or so to get in game at the weekend, at the time i was getting paid for working the weekend as they needed me in, the items cost me about 80 quid on eBay, in the time i would have otherwise stayed home and played to get them i earned about 250. So made economical sense for me just the buy the damn thing(s).

Just FYO, EQ are against the selling/buying of items/accounts etc. They have stoped (or at least did) selling of items on Ebay.

So people use www.playerauctions.com

IMHO the point of playing a game, for me, is getting the items and levels etc. I couldn't justify to myself buying somthing out of game using real money.

Not that i'm against people doing it, everyone should be able to enjoy the game as they see fit (as long as it does not interfear with other players to much) I've known alot of people to buy/sell things from game, good luck to em.

Wow, D2, I remember that game :) Picty is right in that when we started playing Diablo, it was totally reasonable to keep items and trading within the clan only. Main problem was that hacked / duped items were rife, and we were amongst a minority of players who would use genuine items (this was the driving factor in establishing the clan).

But in D2, hacked / duped items are less frequent, and the scope of the game (and perhaps possible penalties for being found out?) seems to have stemmed the dodgy items. Only thing to watch out for is lots of super-rare / too-good-to-be-true items, they are very likely duped (even if the present owner believes they are legit). In the end, asking people not to trade outside the clan would be contrary to clan spirit - the whole point was to make things more enjoyable (which D1 hacks certainly weren't). I'd just suggest using an ounce of common sense and judgement when trading, and if the offer is just too good, heed the alarm bells.

As for trading on Ebay... that's a tricky one. During my MF'ing phase a couple of years ago, I considered buying + selling items, but I could never justify spending actual money on fictitious items. Shame I let a full Tal's set expire on my old sorceress :/ I think i'm probably with Picty on this one - Ebay is a step too far. If there is some ultra-rare item you are after, consider whether the clan as a whole could supply the constituent parts (eg. runes for recipes / upgrading).

At the end of the day, if you are looking to obtain some of the best items in the game, and Ebay is the only way to accomplish it - it's not a million miles from the old D1 days of duping yourself a set of gear. The rarest stuff is meant to be unacheiveable for all but the lucky few, and should remain that way.

Was it ****. Mark wanted to form a Quake clan and, whilst drunk, let Phil talk him into extending it to Diablo.

It was Sheleph who demanded all the boy scout rules :p

LOL :)

Ok for slightly more info from my point of view, firstly your all my bitches and only breath at my decree :p On a more serious note I said to SB he could keep it, as much because I know damn fine I cant force him to get rid of it as the fact he was perfectly open about it and nobody said that it might be a grey area and possibly against clan ethos or Blizzard rules. We all know that Blizz is just a bit anal about its game and if we want to play 'mods' we dont do it as CUK. I am not about to kick him out either as he didnt know and he isnt a bad chap after all ( if a little despo for a set of armour :) )

DII has evolved from Diablo and we had to start chars from fresh and not accept any non-clan items. DII has trading as an integral part but buying accounts, chars or items is not. As folk have pointed out Blizz doesnt like it.

LOL

Is that the best you can come up with?

Point is, you're quite happy to break the law in real life which could have serious consequences and yet you (and several others) get their knickers in a twist over a game.

Seems a tad odd to me :D

I didnt realise it was a competition of wit, it seemed best to humour you as you obviously had a point to make.

As for your point, folk are getting their knickers in a twist because they care about the game and how it should be played.Since Roch has put me in charge of running this little corner of CUK its my responsibility to ensure clan rules are kept and any grey areas are clarified. As for r/l this is an online gaming group, the way I conduct my life is my business and as long as I dont break clan rules which I accepted when I joined then no-one here has any right to be critical.

People are taking this far too seriously.

Of course if someone is uncomfortable (and honestly, I will take no offence to people admitting that they are) with me using the item in a game I will switch chars. It really isn't a problem for me.

As for items, as everyone got so anal (and no, not that type of anal you sick puppies lol) about the legal issue...

The legal entitlement to the items is retained by Blizzard. They reserve the right to remove/delete their property from people leasing these from them (the players).

People selling items are effectively sub-letting and transferring title on property they don't own. This is not legal, but only for the seller. If the purchaser can prove they are an Innocent Private Purchaser then Blizzard in fact have a legal obligation to release their claim over the goods to the purchaser (even over-riding their initial entitlement). They have no right to EVER interfere with that property.

If you want to get really anal (see above lol), Blizzard act unlawfully when arbitrarily deleting accounts and items. They provide no notice of termination of your lease, and they make no formal demand, both of which make it an improper repossession of leased goods. They are hardly therefore able to criticise :)

As for my purchase, the bloke selling was a Power Seller with 100% feedback. I shopped around until I was able to find the most (at face value at least) reputable person. However, I think you can only give feedback once. Maybe all the items have disappeared since lol.
