Bloke in my wow guild logged in last night and said 'ouch i can hardly move, ive been playing wii boxing for a couple of hours'..

..i cant believe there's people out there in worse shape than me :D

Ive just got back from having a look at it round my cousins, was thinking of getting one once the hype settles down.. but dont think ill bother now, ill wait and see if PS3 gets updated versions of my favs like a GTA game, GH3, Burnout etc.

SadSurfer

MMO Pimp and Alt Master
lol - well they are *fun* - which in my opinion is what gaming is all about.
Cutting edge graphics and blue ray HD swishy DVD support etc is nice but fek all use to most.
Everyone considers fun gameplay as something different but I am very impressed with the Wii so far and I know 3 others who have been around and are hunting for one.
I am a biit of a fanbio but I have all consoles and PC etc and think this ranks near the top. I will still play PC, 360, PS3 games but I would pick Wii over the PS3 any day (and yes I do have one to actually compare and not just from reviews / movies etc).
Rant off!

Didn't work though did it :p

While excited about the Wii the weekend just gone was mine and Talili's one year anniversary, sprung a suprise on her at work having booked friday and monday off work for her, went to sherringham, rented a fishermans cottage, walks, beaches, Rosie trying to catch the seagulls, nice food, excellent company. And the only time we talked about the Wii (which was sat setup in the living room) was to decide to pickup Monkey Ball in Woolworths as Toys R Us had everything BUT Monkey Ball.

Just getting it setup with a net connection now and some fun evening gaming to follow this evening :)

I'll do some proper rant and rave about how much fun I've had with the Wii during a quiet time at work though if it'll make you feel better Ky :D

That cartoon is flawed, there is girls in each queue, and they generally aren't retarded enough to camp out all night for a kids toy :)

There were apparently *shock horror* girls in the queue for the Wii launch (bet the geek bois were well scared of them!)

Elebits looks quite interesting, is out over here just in time for Xmas. Imagine a game combining the best of:
- the Half Life gravity gun
- Pikmin
- Katamari Damacy
and you are getting close.

Was playing wii till 1am this morning, some really intuitive controls, some not so, and one felt totally flawed in control (one of the monkey ball mini games). Overall though we had a lot of fun, sent and received Miis to our friends with Wiis, and often ended up missing the ball when playing Tennis after pointing and going

"Look, that's Wavey in the crowd"
or trying to play lob shots so we could work out if that was Izzy stood at the back of the court watching us.

Overall fun factor 10/10
Controls 9.2/10 (will spout more some other time, it is though not a controller issuer more poor design by some of the games)
Wii interface (Mii's, Photo Channel, Shop, Disc) 9.6/10 Very intuitive, should be an option to copy from Message board to SD card, Message board is a really really nice idea.

Initial impressions playing a friends for a bit.

Sports is very good and shows off the controller really well. This is going to be a top game to play with friends while slightly tipsy. Really impressed with how the controller worked with the Golf and Bowling.

Zelda feels as though its going to be amazing. Didn't give it anywhere near the time it needs but it beautifully written and has all the temple crawling that you expect from a Zelda. Graphics are good, not approaching the 360 in any way but the art is lovely. Control with the remote is ok. It ranges from disappointing in the sword fighting to really good using some of the items and ranged weapons.

Monkey Ball: A completely arsed up version of a fun game. The remote is poorly used in most of the mini games and at times it didn't feel like a game at all but an introduction to what the remote can do. The remote ruins a game that had an amazing control system in earlier versions.

From the other games I saw briefly the Wii looks like it could end up with the same problem as the last couple of N consoles and thats third party games. The initial releases seem to range from poor to average and its N's games that stand out.

Looking forward to more Zelda. :)

Of all the games I've played, given the choice I would return Monkey Ball, despite reviews I read I still wanted to give it a try but a good example of poorly designed mini game is frisbee golf.

Great idea, golf with frisbees, then you get to the part where you aim where to throw the fisbee and decide the angle of it, the devs pondered and pondered and thought and mulled it over and came up with an arrow stuck in the ground, ah you think tilt the wii-mote ... nope, hmm turn it left and right maybe ... nope, hold on now it's just spinning in circles ... ahh right you aim it at the screen, up for up, down for down, left for left etc, BUT lets make it more fun by not displaying the point your aiming at AT ALL on the screen, that would do wonders for control. It's just really poorly implemented and could with little work (as most of the mini games are) have been much much better with a tiny amount of thought (naughty naughty SEGA). The main game itself though I really really like and think the wii-mote works really well on that, shame it only has 100 levels though :( Mini games I did like was Rocket landing, hover race and the equivelant of monkey flying.

Fire up COD3 though and you feel a game well designed with the Wii's controls, all work really well and intuative with clear things on screen to help you if you aren't sure (like melee fighting, but once you get the hang of it I wish you could turn those explanations off).

All in all though I'm really happy and impressed with the launch games.

Monkey Ball I'd avoid and any follow ups I'll rent first as my trust in SEGA has faltered, FPS controls are nice and Wii Play and Wii sports the best way to introduce someone to the machine (boxing is rather fun which suprised me)

P.S Sword fighting isn't done right yet on the Wii, in Zelda or Red Steel, can't wait till devs have more time with it and get it tied down.

And Tree for me Monkey Ball has gone downhill recently, with the N64 one being the pinnicle of it's fun, they messed it up on the GC, then the DS and now the Wii :( Oh and ranged combat in Zelda FTW :) (And do you still find it odd having sounds coming from the controller ?)

The sounds from the controller freaked me out for a while aye. :)

I've got to wait less than two weeks now for my own Wii (fingers crossed) and I imagine I'll mainly use it to play Nintendo's big games (With the odd good 3rd party game throw in).

I think Nintendo have found the perfect market with it as an accompeniment to a 360 or a PS3 as an alternative gaming experience.

The controller is calling out for a good sword fighting game aye you're right and FPS's should work well if they get it right (haven't tried CoD3).

Looking forward to revisiting some old classics as well. Itching to go through Res Evil 4 again.

Monkey for me have become less and less like cohesive games and more just throwing a load of mini games together and hoping for the best which is a real shame. Same could be said for MP really as well thb although maybe with the new controller that'll get a new lease of life.

Grab a copy of COD3 for the night from block busters and give it a spin if your mate won't mind (he'll get to try it as well) I really do like it and will at some point at least rent out Red Steel.

And sword fighting ... Pssshhhh

LIGHTSABRES !!!!!!!! Look at my other topic posted today :), if you're all really unlucky I might even make a video of me trying it tonight

Oh and Wii is a good second console but for many it could before a first ever console and I think Wii will do a much better job at expanding the gaming market over 360 and PS3, akin to the what the DS did to the mobile gaming market but to a lesser extent I imagine.

It depends on if the people who bought the Wii because they got caught up in the hype of the controller continue to buy software.

I think it's in a position where when the novelty factor wears off it could get forgotten about in 6 months time by this type of buyer and its just the long standing gamers who stick with it.

What it needs to keep it going is a few solid games that get the best from the controller. I would imagine the best thing Nintendo can do is to get someone working on some sports titles (Golf, Cricket, Footie etc) as I think this is the type of game that will appeal most to the people who are first console buyers. Maybe even Ky will get one if the cricket game is half decent. :)

Well for next year so far there is:

Super Smash Bros. Brawl (online multiplay beat em up)
Super Mario Galaxy (which I think looks pants)
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (last in the Metroid series :()
No More Heroes (RPG, open ended GTA style)
Mario Strikers Charged (footy)
Super Swing Golf (golf)
Wario Smooth Moves (multiplayer mayhem)

The only I guess concerning thing in that list is that 4 of the 5 are Nintendo's. Not a bad thing though if it keeps people buying Wii's, playing games on em and growing the market, as far as 3rd party support goes while it's there the main 3rd party titles I'm interested in are Elebits, Airbender and No More Heros, There could be more but I'm not gonna focus too much on them while I have lots to already do on the Wii :)

Oops, add Battalion Wars 2 and possibly SSX to the list of games I'm looking forward too ;)
