I've no idea what the release titles for the PSP was but I remember a friend who got one saying it was the worst release titles he'd ever seen (he lives in the US).

I think the launch titles are suffering as they wanted to get the machine out this early.

I'd like to give PGR and Kameo a spin (even if Kameo didn't get a good review)

Usally europe has to wait for consoles ie 6 months behind japan,so we realy only see a launch as titles there willing to give us.I agree it looks very thin, but i suspect japan and usa are used to seeing a lot worse line ups at the launch of consoles.

All launch titles are a funny thing,on one hand if your EA and youve a average game in the pipe line youd want it out on launch, less titles to compete against. But if you knew you had the best game in the world, youd launch it later when more people have the console just for a bigger market.

why march?

Simply because there will be more games around mate. Things like Oblivion will be out then (theoretically). Ideally I'd say wait until June, but I'll prolly get mine March.

Tom Clancy's one will be out I think March next year which will be good, live support on that should make it very good indeed

Er Elder scrolls Oblivion is also on the PC, why would you want to buy it for a crappy console when its avaible for the mighty PC.

Its not like its MP and you can all sit around and play togeather like Mario Kart

Secret of Mana for the SNES was the best MP RPG, 3 m8s could all play togeather, using the 3 main characters

Honestly?

Firstly, I'm fucking sick of sitting at a desk playing PC games. Secondly, I would far rather be sitting on the couch with my wireless Xbox controller than sitting in an office chair 16 hours a day. Thirdly, I'm fed up with having to upgrade my PC every 3 seconds to play the latest game. My current setup will last the Doom3 and Half Life 2 engines on average settings, but won't cope with the next-gen tech: Graphics aren't everything - if the game is good, then it's a good game. The difference between the 360 and PCs for the near future is very, very close.

Thatisall.

Wireless kb and mouse.........

Guess that was aimed at me mate - yeah i've thought about it, but tbh you wouldn't be able to see things like text on the screen. the only way i've seen PC gaming work from the couch is using a projector - playing WoW 8' high is pretty special :D

Things you don't do on a console:
Install, Patch, Reboot, Groan, Check drivers, reboot, Groan, See what part of the PC needs upgrading now, Order, Pay, Install, Groan, Update drivers, reboot, Groan, Uninstall, Swear, re-install windows, install, update drivers, re-seat cards, etc, etc, etc

On a console you turn it on, put the CD/DVD in, get a beer from fridge, collapse on sofa and play.

I can't wait to see more about the FFXI beta on the 360 (still on a test server although it's been seen running on the live servers), suddenly able (without a projector) to play on the sofa with I'd hope voice comms via the 360, now I just need to convince Talili we need another large TV and 2 360's ....

Stupid is as stupid does
I agree with Piper and Goatta. I'd much rather sit on my comfy sofa, plug a game in and play instantly without titting around the whole time. I use a PC a lot of the day at work and unless there really is a compelling game thats is PC specific, these days I think consoles and widening my arse on the sofa are the way forward.

MS Just want to play up the fact there "really popular" and "so hard to get hold of" to increase the hype a little.

A popular theory but not true i'm afraid, lack of availability is a direct result of lack of time to get units produced in time for christmas and going for a global launch rather than the US getting all the allocation for crimbo and then Europe etc getting a release in March.

As good as the hype is it's better to sell 5 360s if you could produce them quickly enough than 1 in exchange for good publicity :)

For every X-box 360 sold MS lose 160 something dollars, if they wanted more they could be more, they would just cost more. And at the end of the day it's got to be a good bit of PR when someone pays thousands for your console so they get it quickly.

To be perfectly honest Pip it highlights the stagnation of the PC games industry, they tend to be more about using the new tech and shoving even more parts through your PC than about making a good game. If some developers took this onboard and used comparatively older tech, but focused upon gameplay and structure they could potentially be on for t3h w1n as long as they made things look OK. Not to mention have a vastly more available target audience.

This all started with Quake 2 I suppose with the "You MUST have a 3D card to play this game". Thats all fine and dandy, but why have to spend a butt load on some swanky top of the range kit for something worth 35? I buy new gear once every year, thats it. Why should I have to do so more often than that?

Pity really, I can still remember playing Diablo for the first time and saying to myself, wow that looks good, what made the difference was that it was good to play, not just to look at, and stood the test of time, as has its more recent incarnation.

To be honest, and I havent been within the gaming industry for some time now, nor do I wish to return (unless Pip wants to swap jobs? ;) ) and it seems as though the hardware manufacturers are simply churning out more and more and trying to make the developers keep up with and use these new features, maybe the developer gets some financial breathing room? (Which is a rare thing!), or maybe there is even more pressure?. To be honest it seems as though games cater for those who are always on the ball with the hardware, throwing cash around 24/7 just for that 1fps. How pathetic.

Reeks of stagnation to be perfectly honest.

(And yes projectors r0xx0r, specially for CS:S!)
