I've just come across this and it looks very interesting. From what I've read, they've been working on this for years.

To be clear, this isn't a hack or a cheat. It just adds a lot to the game and changes the names and stats of lots of stuff. Its not for playing on BNet. You can play multi player games over LAN or TCP/IP though.

The original LoD is automatically backup and restored.

30% chance for Rares, 5% chance for Sets and 5% chance for Uniques.
# Greatly reduced the gamble cost of expensive items (heavy armor, etc.).
# Greatly increased the chance for Exceptionals and Elites.
# *Important* Exceptional items can be gambled only in Nightmare.
# *Important* Elite items can be gambled only in Hell.




# Quest Rewards

Akara gives 2 skill points for Den and a magic/rare SC for rescuing Cain.
# The Horadric Cube chest in the Halls of Dead drops a Decipherer per player.
# Ormus gives a Rare Jewel for Gidbinn.
# Mephisto drops Decipherers instead of Soulstones. (Cain gives a Soulstone.)
# Hellforge quest drops better runes. Up to r28 (Norm), r35 (NM), r42 (Hell).
# Qual-Kehk gives a kit of materials for Class Craft for rescuing Barbs.
# Anya gives an cubing material which makes a Unique Item for rescuing her.



# Hirelings

Hirelings can equip gloves, a belt, boots, rings and an amulet.
# Hirelings use more various skills, including BO, Fanaticism and Conviction. Hirelings Skills



Monsters (General)


# Increased all monsters' level, life, defense, damage, AR and experience.
# Monsters are reallocated and new monsters are added, including Black Knight, Goatman Lord, Beholder, D1 Succubus, King Leoric, Belhifeit and Cyclops.
# Monster's Iron Maiden is almost harmless (reflects only 20% damage).

# The panther woman nearby the Horadric Cube chest drops a Forging Hammer.
(50% chance in Normal, 75% chance in NM and 100% chance in Hell)
# The Ancients at the Arreat Summit drop a Decipherer.
(20% chance in Normal, 40% chance in NM and 60% chance in Hell)

Something that replaces arrow quantity is a nice idea; hate having to carry extra stacks of arrows around.

No mate I usually play Sorcs (lightning), mess about with a Summon Necro and have a Hammerdin for Worldstone Keep.



Been reading a lot more about this Eastern Sun mod and am very impressed with it. Its almost a D3.


And.... theres a One Ring \o/ ( it doesnt drop like that btw, one of the features in ES seems to be that you can keep on improving and improving items and that one has taken weeks and months of work)


Looks like they run lots of tournies etc. Whyever didn't Blizzard carry on supporting the game to this extent?

The work they have done on Mercs is impressive; they've made them all useful and enabled a lot more skills on them :




Act 1 Rogue Scout

� Can't equip Amazon specific items.
� +X To All Skill Levels works.
� +X To Amazon Skills/Tabs doesn't work.
� +X To Each Skill (Magic Arrow, etc.) works.
� Oskill bonuses of their inherent skills are capped at +3 per character.
� Their inherent skills work as a synergy for an aura item.

Fire Rogue

� Uses Inner Sight, Magic Arrow, Slow Missiles, Immolation Arrow, Exploding Arrow, Poison Arrow and Strafe.
� No aura or warcries, but Inner Sight now reduces monster's Defense by percent,and also reduces monster's Physical Resist (works on top of the curse Amplify Damage,
etc.).
� Slow Missile also helps a lot, especially in Act 5 and Andariel's Dressing Room.
� Strafe is also good for triggering CtC Skills.


Cold Rogue

� Uses Inner Sight, Magic Arrow, Slow Missiles, Ice Arrow, Freezing Arrow, Lightning
Arrow and Legendary Arrow.
� No aura or warcries, but Inner Sight now reduces monster's Defense by percent,
and also reduces monster's Physical Resist (works on top of the curse Amplify Damage,
etc.).
� Slow Missiles also helps a lot, especially in Act 5 and Andariel's Dressing Room.
� Ice Arrow chills and Freezing Arrow freezes non CI monsters.
� Once she gets a good amount of Pierce, Lightning Arrow and Legendary Arrow exert an awesome effect.
� Legendary Arrow with a good amount of Pierce is also good for triggering CtC Skills.


Act 2 Desert Mercenary

� Can't equip Paladin specific items.
� +X To All Skill Levels works.
� +X To Paladin Skills/Tabs doesn't work.
� +X To Each Skill (Might, etc.) works.
� Oskill bonuses of their inherent skills are capped at +3 per character.
� Their inherent skills work as a synergy for an aura item.
All Mercenaries
� Uses Jab, Lightning Strike, Vengeance and an Aura.
� Vengence and Lightnin Strike can kill some PIs and still can leech if the target isn't
PI.
� Have less life regeneration than Barbarian hirelings. To make up for this, they need
better equipment (more Max Life, Life Leech and DR%).
Auras
� Sometimes it takes several minutes before they activate the Aura.
� I don't say Act 2 Mercenaries are weak, but their aura level is generally nerfed in ES.
This is because the aura made them better than the other hirelings in LoD. Auras are
not so strong when they are naked, but you can boost the aura level with +Skill items.
� Might and Fanaticism are good for physical attacking characters.
� Conviction is of course the best aura for the casters. Offensive Barbarian is
another good option for casters, especially when you can use Conviction by an item.


Act 3 Eastern Sorcerer

� Can't equip Sorceress specific items.
� +X To All Skill Levels works.
� +X To Sorceress Skills/Tabs doesn't work.
� +X To Each Skill (Fire Ball, etc.) works.
� Oskill bonuses of their inherent skills are capped at +3 per character.
� Their inherent skills work as a synergy for an aura item.


Fire Sorcerer

� Uses Protection From Fire, Meteor Shower, Fire Ball, Flame Wave, Immolation and
Creeping Doom.
� Creeping Doom stuns monsters from time to time.
� Perhaps the least characteristic one, but deals the largest damage of the three.
Cold Sorcerer

� Uses Protection From Cold, Tornado, Glacial Spike, Ice Nova, Winter Fury and
Frozen Orb.
� Ice Nova, Winter Fury and Frozen Orb chills and Glacial Spike freezes non CI
monsters.
� Cannot Be Frozen from Protection From Cold incredibly benefits summoners, even
if some corpses are destroyed by Cold Spells.

Lightning Sorcerer

� Uses Protection From Lightning, Static Field, Lightning, Chain Lightning, Lightning
Hydra, Bone Spirit and Time Stop.
� Protection From Lightning is the most popular protection aura because of the
nasty Black Souls.
� They cast Time Stop only from time to time, but it reduces the threat of monsters
like Holy Freeze.
� They don't cast Static Field frequently either, but it's nice gravy.


Act 5 Barbarian


� Can equip Barbarian specipic items.
� +X To All Skill Levels works.
� +X To Barbarian Skills/Tabs doesn't work.
� +X To Each Skill (Shout, etc.) works.
� Oskill bonuses of their inherent skills are capped at +3 per character.
� Their inherent skills work as a synergy for an aura item.


Defensive Barbarian

� Uses Stun, Concentrate, Battle Orders, Shout and Battle Command
� Battle Orders and Shout combo is useful for all classes, especially melee
characters.
� Not only BO and Shout but also Stun and Concentrate make them the toughest
hirelings in the game. They can stay alive with relatively cheap gears.
� Battle Command gives not a single but a few skill boosts. This makes them also
good for casters.


Offensive Barbarian

� Uses Bash, Berserk, Waycry, Ancient's Call and Battle Command
� Has no life boost or def boost, but Warcry effectively stuns nearby monsters to
attack safely.
� Ancient's Call works like a curse, but it amazingly reduces all kinds of resistance,
including Poison and Magic.
� Bash has the highest damage bonus in the game, and Berserk's Magic damage is
boosted by Ancient's Call. The total damage can't be bad.
� Battle Command gives not a single but a few skill boosts. This makes them also
good for casters.

The most impressive thing about this mod is that it doesn't overwrite or change any of your D2 installation.

It creates a separate icon on your desktop which runs Eastern Sun as a new and separate game. Your D2LoD icon stays on your desktop. I've just tested this and logged into Battlenet with my existing characters after having a look around in Eastern Sun.

This was released 3 years ago, for info. Constantly updated, large community, with last revision released 21/09/07.

You just download it (78Mb) run it (select your D2 installation folder) and it installs in a sub folder within the D2 directory as a separate game.

Very impressive stuff.

Yes, its going to be nice to play with a useful Merc that isn't from act 2, quite apart from everything else. :)



An act 3 merc that casts Static Field / Meteor Shower / Frozen Orb, act 1 mercs that cast slow missiles/immolation arrow/strafe or act 5 mercs that use Battle Orders / Battle Command. Sweet.

Am still a left hand only gal so having to resort to NWN for my gaming fix atm, getting there though. Especially with cats sneaking onto lap for attention from free hand, am sure its some sort of physio :)

Oh, this mod is damn good, thank you sooo much for pointing this out Flight. Only problem is I'm going to have to talk my son into a lan game so I can create a amazon to use the ridiculous unique bow my level 5 sorc picked up :)
Also going to have to read the player guide to work out all the wierd drops. Gonna be fun though :D

Oh, Pictelf, you solo'ing NWN or multiplayer? I've never been online with it but have a couple of gig's worth of mod games for it. The Diablo one is well worth a look at.

I played the mod to lvl 20 so far. Yes, its superb - I'd pay for it if it was a full priced game. Its a must play for anyone who likes Diablo.

Am just soloing the original NWN campaign I had done a few modules before with my fighter/thief but then stopped playing for a while and probably updated my version so the campaigns I had didn't work anymore *grins*.
I played through the original campaign with my other half which was fun and had a decent druid which I played a a few other modules too, seem to remember fighting some dragon as another dragon, high lvl shapechange ftw!
Anyway lost that druid and when we got the other official campaigns me and other half just didn't get into it. So am working my way through and if he doesn't want to try again I will play them through myself anyway :)

Its hard to express just how much work has gone into ES Picty. For a small taste of that look at some of the cube recipes they've added in this guide at the ES Wiki.


The skill trees have been totally reworked, skills moved and changed, with new skills added.


Its harder than D2, the mobs are tougher with more HPs, but you are given the tools to deal with that. The Mercs absolutely rock, for example. The Necro can have one of each golem out - but its not overpowered, they will be needed (plus Nec doesn't get skels until lvl 12 - no more skel mages either, skel vampires at lvl 30 instead).


Here's a write up of a gold find necro, with skills and equipment, to give a bit of an idea about how you can upgrade items indefinitely etc.


Even all this is barely scratching the surface.


Ultimately, its very polished and, most importantly, very balanced.

I got fairly bored with with LoD revival (sorry guys ;)), but ES's nicely polished, and has enough new stuff to keep me interested for a while.

The main thing I'm loving is the ability to reset skills, and to unsocket items. Means i can piss about trying things, and don't have to worry about min/maxing, can test out new ideas as you go along. :)

Got to level 20 this morning on a barb if you fancy a tcp/ip game, Flight.

Yummy - Act 1 Jail waypoint is replaced by a portal to the Cow Level (once you can get to it).
