I love this game. Maybe it's a case of being pretty new to the whole MMO thing and therefore not being jaded by it, but there is a constant giddy excitement as I explore and see new things, and new things open up!

Every time I launch it it has an error and has to verify all the files. I can then play, but if I leave the game it has an error once I restart it, and has to do the verify files thing again, which is frikin annoying.

Playing on Pikey as Cullhaven.2378

Floppy eared Asura are go!!

Greetings Folks,

Glad to see so many of you on Piken Square, a server that we on Underworld seem to clash with mucho.

Currently lvling my Guardian and Thief at the same time so both are almost 30, not rushing, also enjoying the crafting on both, thinking for WvW it'll be my Guardian that I'll be using the most - already discovered some sweet combos!!

So be on the look out for a floppy eared Asura trying to kill you.

Cheers

I am just pottering about trying out different characters/races/start areas to see what I like. Got a level 8 thief I am deffo keeping, and will def have a necro and an Engineer. Quite enjoyed mesmer and huntsman was ok. Son played a Char Guardian last night but at the moment I dont think ill go for an out and out front liner. Loving the game so far, it never seems like a grind and the arcane nature of crafting really intersts me. Taking my time, not hurrying just enjoying everything.

What I really love about this game (apart from no monthly sub!) is the fact that you can wander whereever you like pretty much, as the game adjusts your level down to suit lower areas so they aren't too easy. The fact that you just end up in an event as you just happened to be killing in that area/collecting feels really smooth.

Crafting is fun, but slow I've found, but the fact that I can go back to lower level areas that I haven't been too to explore and collect low level mats at the same time is brilliant.

Pvp & WvW are mad zergfests - shame my pc has a heart attack when too much is going on! (Roll on pc upgrade!)

Not enjoyed a MMO in such a long time really, since the early days of WoW.

what i liked was that when i went back to farm level 1-15 mats for crafting (having spent mine on weaponsmithing and then decided armoursmithing was far more helpful), i still levelled up at a similar rate to what i would in a level-appropriate zone, and i still got some loot drops that were actually for around my level. very nicely done, imo.

Your opinion is worthless....
It seems that have taken the best from most other games, and added them, i think wvw is brilliant not much unlike DAoC no realm ranks yet that i know off, bg's just like WoW but better and the maps are brilliant same as wvw maps.

all in all very chuffed, i agree on crafting slow, but then I play for a few days gather mats and then grind my skills up to get new gear, all in really enjoying playing an mmg for the first time in ages, that has sort of open world maps and you can really do things, rather than join the zerg you can break off and have a small group action.

having only done some WvW, i'm not incredibly keen just yet - with no fast travel around (like mounts), the moment you die you're looking at a 5 minute run back to the front lines, which isnt exactly a fun an exciting way to play the game.

My brief experience of the WvW thingy is it tends to get bottled up all to easily around a keep - where the offensive team can't get to the gate to destroy it with all the defenders on the walls - leading to a load of players just standing around out of range of each other. This is probably due to most people not having a clue what is happening or what to do yet (I know I don't) and just sort of grouping where they see a bunch of other players!

I did the 5 man Achalon Caverns (think thats what it was called) last night....oh wow that was a wake up call!

See in DAoC, people would split off to stop people turning upto said keep and generally cause mayhem, which is what i want to do in all honesty, and also take other locations to cause problems :)

as for that achalon caverns thingy what level is that?

Achalon Cavern seemed to be level 30 - I got a mail about it, and it linked to the story. It was tough!

Anyone make an arguement for bothering with trade skills? I started with jewelling and tailoring - gave up on tailoring when it reached about 70 and started to require 8 of the crafting item to make one thing (bank space was a problem too). I've stuck with Jewelling and kept it well in pace, but most of the stuff I make I can by for a handful of copper on the auction house, or buy equal quality from traders. Are trade skills going to benefit me at the endgame at all? Because quite frankly I'm finding it tedious now, it's just repeating the same steps for every new metal level. It's easily the least fun part of the game - and I reckon if I said sod it and sold all the 'trade items' I've collected I could make a shed load of cash.
