World of Tanks

Cadfiel

Not grumpy
The IS-7 and 110E5 dominate in clan wars although from the looks of things, the new Chinese heavies could break into that list.

Super Pershing is my favorite Premium ATM, play it like a Heavy and your fine. Get hull down and your next to impossible to kill and as its premium you can also devote a little bit of cash into premium ammo.

British heavy line sucks generally but the Churchill 7 is OK once you get the top tier gun, takes a while to get there but fit it with a rammer and gun laying drive and you can take on those with more powerful guns easily.

A few people i know with the top end Brit heavy say its worth the perseverance.

The Cromwell is a great tank, till the new American lights came along that is, but it is a Medium that back back up lights in same tier battles. T50 with that backing them up is scary.

Swither, its worth working towards a KV-1S. At tier 6 it is the tank of choice for most clan battles and sadly the IS-3 is the tank of choice for tier 8. I much prefer my Tiger II but who am i to say. Just get the KV-1S and stop there. You cant hit jack at 20 paces and its takes ages to load but when you do its great.

If you don't have a premium at all, its worth getting at least 1 tier 8 because you'll need a reliable income above tier 7. If it ever sees the light of day again the Type 59 rules but if it doesn't appear when the Chinese comes out i doubt we will ever see it again sadly.

the top British heavy (FV215b) is epic, it has better front turret armor than anything else, and the gun has the highest penetration of all the heavies as well. Just be careful in it, and you'll be fine.

Other than that Cadfiel said it all, I missed the type 59, I hope it does come back, as it seems to be a great tank to get a little wolf pack going in.

Yeah think that line might suit my idiot play-style better. No premium here so will have to save up for the credits. (should only take around 30 games in my T18 :) )

From playing the test server i wont be pushing any of teh chinese lines they all suck.

Brit heavy is epic in Clan Wars, Is4 > is7 specialy since they improved teh speed of the is4 a few patches back.

Arty is about to be nerfed hard, except it seems the Germans.

tbh, I agree with the arty nerf to an extent. I've been in quite a few tank companies, and had battles with 5/6 arties, and a few scouts, if the scouts are good, they'll win.

And again, as an anti-arty scout, arties are very capable of dealing with scouts alone, especially as a pair. I don't find it much fun in a battle with tier 6 arties knowing they can practically kill off my game in 1 shot :\

Arty is about to be nerfed hard, except it seems the Germans.

I had a look at various ones, most of the arty pieces I play seem to just have irrelevant nerfs like moves slightly slower/less view range/less HP/4% (woopdedoo) more dispersion on moving. If Arty is spotted they are usually dead anyway so HP is useless, you shouldn't really be spotting stuff outside of the occasional game where only arty are left so view range is useless. Moving slower is only a problem if they are so slow that they can't move in time to avoid counter battery and finally 4% extra dispersion when moving/traversing is... 4%.. who cares.

These "hard" nerfs you are talking about are mainly the declination angle nerfs on some arty or some other nerf I missed?

Also great of them to raise hopes by saying they are going to put an arty cap per side in and then dashing them by setting the cap at 5... Any game with more than 3 is just bad for everyone.

<- only done lowbie arty up to grille

but it's amusing when they find you and park up in front as they target. then you explode them into tiny pieces, heh.

Just installed this on Friday, seems pretty fun, and far more enjoyable so far than Planetside 2, think I'll play both for a while and then decide which I enjoy the most and then spend a little real money.

The Freemium model though seems quite good, but a little clunky, and not encouraging at the start (for example a cheap way to get a one off newbie premium account for a few days but you can only buy it once would be nice)

Got Thursday and Friday off work so will be giving this and PS2 a good hammering :)

I'm playing along with my Renegade Legion buddies. Not played for a month or so but I do enjoy it.

I think I joined them in PS1, will be joining them on PS2 though assuming very casual play is allowed :) (I should have sent you a friend invite as well Guy, and to Dart on PS2 over the weekend)

Wot is very casual Gottaa.

No need for premium, just take ur time and learn the tank, max it for fun & goodness.

I have my first Tank destroyer a T18 which is brill fun to play still.

WoT is the only f-t-p model game where I've actually spent money. the mid-upper tiers can take a LONG time without premium imo.

I got at the weekend a tier 3 tank, and I think it's fun, I would pay money now if I felt it would give me a little help, but looking on the website it seems all I can get is premium account which Cad says isn't worth it till later tiers as xp and cash flows well enough, and tier 8 tanks :/

Is it worth joining a group like Renegade Legion, or given what level I am is it pointless and I should just enjoy what I've doing now and continue to learn the ropes ?

Edit: Is it worth adding people here as friends in WoT ? My profile is 'Gottaa_Muddypaw'

You don't really need premium at low tiers, although it vastly speeds up the grind. I didn't get premium until i'd elited every tank below tier 5. Once you start with premium its difficult to get used to how slow it is to get to the next tank without it.

Joining a clan won't really benefit you much outside of having somewhere to post your "I got 7 medals and 2500exp in this battle!" and perhaps finding some people to platoon with. I find I actually play worse when i'm platooned up.

You should pick a good tree to start with. My choice would be the soviet or american heavy lines as they are all decent after tier 4. Keep an eye on the WoT EU site at the weekends aswell for the specials, discounted tanks with credit boosts are a great way to make a lot of credits when you are playing without premium and you will probably want some garage slots/consumables/equipment eventually (they go down to 50% every couple of months).

In other news... I finally elited the Churchill VII, never been so glad to sell a tank, what a piece of crap.

You don't get tangible benefits from joining a clan, but it does make it easier to find good platoons, and good platoons can swing the balance of a battle in my experience.

We can get you in RL again if you want mate and we have weekly WoT nights that are a blast, though you really do need to be running tanks within a tier or so to make sure you aren't vastly outgunned.

Don't bother with premium until at least tier 5 imo. I think I started at 6.

I may as well join RL again for a mix of PS2 and WoT, even if I'm not high enough level yet in WoT I can find some people in PS2 that can maybe show me what I seem to be missing at the moment (I miss hidden AMS's, ANT run's, and generally being able to walk 10ft without dying)

I will be playing casually though so don't want to commit to too much, that be okay ?

I've gone down the line of Russian Tank Destroyers at the moment, I get on better with hiding in bushes and sniping on defense than needing to have quicker reactions if charging out into the enemy.

And why would you take a tank up to Elite level and then sell it ?

Once you get to the split at tier 7, take the SU-152. The other line is difficult to play. The tier 8 ISU-152 is a fantastic tank. Derping someone for 750 (+-25%) damage is wonderful, so easy to get 5k+ damage games in that tank.

Elite is just having everything researched on that tank. I elite all my tanks, as many guns/engines/radio's are shared between differant trees within that nation so I will have those modules unlocked in the medium tree and I guess the TD/arty tree when those get patched in. I sold it because I bought the next tank in the line and its not a fun tank.

Guy

I was careful to elite each tank, partly because gear is shared between some tiers/tanks but also because when you're knocked out in one battle you need a backup tank to play with until the fooked one is out; use an elite tank and use the premium account to shift XP accrued on the l33t to your current tier. Make sense?
