World of Tanks

You can elite all tiers Gottaa, it means you can unlock all the gear for the next tank (and others sometimes).

I personally think it is worth training a crew up to 100%, as you will definitely see how better your tank performs with a good crew, plus you get to learn to play and the maps etc.

It is a personal choice, but I wouldn't be in too much of a hurry to race up the tiers unless you hate the tank you are currently in.

So i should elite my t2 tank? Or is the eliting thing only for higher tiers/premium accounts?

Really its personal preference. It might give you a slightly easier time in the next vehicle if you already have the 200hp engine unlocked instead of the stock 150hp one or the 110pen gun instead of the stock 75pen, you can check if it benefits you by viewing the module stats, it lists which vehicles its used on. Keep in mind that sometimes you can't use that better gun/engine without getting the tracks on the new tank because they are too heavy but atleast you already have them waiting for when you get the tracks.

Another benefit to eliting a tank (mostly after tier 4 - its not worth moving your crew up & paying for retraining before tier ~5 if you are selling as soon you are done with it) is that you can then check a box that appears once you elite it to accelerate crew training which takes the exp you earn in the battle and gives it to your least experienced crew member (eg. you got a 1k exp battle so your crew gain 1k exp each as normal and then the least experienced guy gets an extra 1k). If you don't tick that box then you have excess exp building up on that tank that you won't have a use for without spending gold to convert it to free exp (can use on any tank). I use the accelerate crew training option as I already feel nickel and dimed enough without that but unless the tank is alot of fun I sell it as soon as its elite anyway.

As for crew training. If you have plenty of cash you can buy a 75% crew at tier 4 and it will probably make the tank a bit more enjoyable (maybe just pay for gunner and driver) otherwise do it at tier 5, I'd say its a better use of credits starting at tier 5 as the retrain when moving them up from tier 4 to 5 will likely set them back to 75% anyway as they won't have reached a very high % from the exp at tier 4 (you lose 10% crew exp from a credit retraining if its the same vehicle class).

On the early tiers i never bothered with eliting a tank unless i was going to progress down an alternative tree OR the module is going to be of use in a later tank. Its worth eliting the tier 1 tank to open up all the possible trees.

Once you hit tier 4 its another matter. Firstly, crew skill makes a huge difference. Also there is no rush to get to the dreaded "end game". In WoT there is no end game like a traditional MMO. Getting to Tier 10 is really about playing in clan wars, pug games are rarely fun, almost always cost you money and for you are a long way off. Lots of people have fun in the tier 5 and 6 range. Also in the lower tiers cash will be more of an issue to start with so dont worry about crew. If you dont want to use gold to get a 100% crew make sure you least have the cash for 75% crew @ tier 5, thats 20k per crew member.

Get the TD line up to 5 while working on the russian heavy line when the TD blows up although there is some milage in viewing how other people play when you have been destroyed.

Youll make money to Tier 5 regardless of skill really and by that time you really want to know your way around the maps and be competent in your tanks of choice, for the Russians thats the SU-85 TD and KV-1 Heavy Tank.

Yep... Having played 11k battles and only now getting close to my first tier 10 tank its a little frustrating seeing people with 3k battles rolling around in tier 10's playing poorly. Although you still see people being completely useless at 20k+ battles :/

I probably won't even bother buying my first unlocked T10 since it will be the Obj.263 and I am really tired of this TD line.

It is also worth bearing in mind that at tier 5+ ammo & repairs cost a bloody fortune!

Got my T29 and ammo costs 1K per shot! I never play it much as 1) I am crap and 2) I can't afford to L2P in it :(

I'm currently going down the USA TD route, at a T40 and wolverine is next, but I do want to get enough dosh to try out the KV-1 again as it seems from adivise here (WOT threads) that the Russian heavys might suit me more.

Mind u the TD T18 is the most fun tank I have ever played :)

i really like the fast tanks, the slow ones i find pretty drab.

Just got my first tier10 today, E50M and its a nice upgrade but as coughing up the 6.1 Million for the tank and another 50k to ammo it took me down to 20k i then had to play a game in the Lowe and and in the T26E4 just to have the cash to safely play a game in it.

Mind you now its build up some cash reserves before getting working on the next tank.

Damn.. T34 just prints money. Westfield tier 8 game with only one tier 4 arty, perfect! Could have got even more if it wasn't for cappers.

Those numbers look pretty big for a person starting out like me

One question I have is, I've talked to my brother about World of Tanks and someone in the office and there both interested, how do the friend invite codes work (if at all) for getting someone new into the game with a little boost ?

Looking on the official forums I still don't really understand who gets the code or how, but if anyone knows and can help out it would be appreciated

Edit: I reversed myself over a rock in a game recently and just sat there for the whole game unable to move (even tried firing which almost got me free), when that happens is there something else to try or just leave the game and learn to not drive so badly ?

Its only such a huge amount because its a tier 8 premium tank. With a normal Tier 8 that game would probably be about 65-70k credits.

As far as I know there isn't a normal invite a friend program. They do give out promotional invite codes at events but i'd imagine they are single use.

It does seem a bit silly, i'd have thought giving new players a few days premium would work out pretty well for wargaming because of how slow paced the progression feels once your premium expires and you feel the need to get your credit card out...

Sometimes you can eventually free yourself by trying to drive different directions but if you are properly stuck there isn't much you can do. If someone is nearby you can try asking for a push which will free you from most places.

Well had my most fun, enjoyable quick game with a light BT-2 this morning, zipping around, got behind the enemy lines got there attention and amazingly my side then advanced and took advantage of the front line trying to take me out, then I got caught by someone who was pulling back I assume to take me out, and he rammed me and I realised my time was short so I went into full reverse and reversed into a deep river, and before I died I got to watch him follow me straight into the river and drown himself. I don't think I've laughed quite so much in WoT before.

I know it cost me alot to repair my tank, but I still made money and we won the match, and while I didn't beat the guy that stopped whizzing around I felt I had won on some level :D

Why the hell didn't I download this before !

Wondering about coming back to this. I have a German account, and a russian one. I'm pretty shit in a tank but not bad as arty, which is much easyer to play.

Yeah, I formed a 2 man team with Cad last night and I'm not premium, and it said in the Platoon window that I could add another person if I went Premium. I'm still 100% to the russian line at the moment, and already found some wierd differences, in tier 3, the BT-7 gives me maps I'm used to and the highest other tier I see is 4, yet in the T-46 I often see tier 5 tanks and keep coming across maps I've never seen (which is nice, but I often find myself over-extending as a scout and getting one shotted).

I like the idea of a scout but I lack the knowledge of the new maps I keep coming across, the nice thing though of sticking to the russian line is soon I'll unlock the medium so I can get to try abit of everything. Not tried Arty still, mainly because I'm struggling enough as it is with lights and TD (TD I think is still my favourite, though I do miss the speed of the lights)

I think both of those tanks have matchmaking at 3-5, maybe you just keep getting unlucky with the T-46 :). The lights at tier 4 get dumped into anything between tier 4 and 8 (5-9 for T-50) making the A-20 a bit of a grind (Its fast in a straight line but loses way too much speed turning to be very effective at active scouting).
